Mortgages are only part of our lives, right? I only know what I read online, although Abraham Lincoln once said, “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” Before you fly down the freeway on a summer vacation, I also know that I have received my fair share of speeding tickets. (For those of you who haven’t, it’s a “punch in the gut” feeling to see that red light in the rear-view mirror. I’ve been able to talk them out of… none.) In something that smacks of Big Brother watching all the data, apparently 9 percent of drivers had a speeding ticket in 2022. Those drivers probably knew the speed limits, but in case you’d like a map of worldwide speed limits, here you go. (Thank you to Carol K.!) The official FHFA 2024 loan limits won’t be out until around Thanksgiving, of course, but in terms of inventions there is no limit on innovation. Face it: there isn’t a lot of innovation in lending. Sure the ....

“Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels… Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields.” Yes, at the end of today we’re halfway through with 2022 (already). Time passes, hair styles, relationships, people, pandemics, and companies come and go. (Today’s joke has to do with the passing of time.) History is made and remembered. Woody Williams, the last surviving WWII Medal of Honor recipient (Iwo Jima), died yesterday at 98, as did Hells Angel founder Sonny Barger. When was the last time COVID made the headlines? Yesterday the Commentary noted, “Remember names like AmeriLoan, Countrywide, PNC, WaMu, Home Savings of America, Fleet, Great Western, World Savings, Associates, Nat City?” My apologies to PNC, and the many who wrote in, saying that it is alive and well. Business cycles are alive and well: With rates escalating higher and the home price appreciation that has taken place, buyer interest has rapidly deteriorat ....

This morning I head off to Orange County to the IMN Non-QM Forum where homeownership and home finance option discussions will be center stage. Did you know that June is “Homeownership Month”? Ginger B. reminds us that, the average homeowner will move up to 12 times in their life and on average will own 3 homes in their life, and the median distance between the homes people purchased and those they moved from is just 15 miles. Create a customer for life with your service! Affordable housing fans should know that Habitat for Humanity and Wells Fargo recently partnered on building 350 affordable homes. Certainly, housing is a complicated issue, whether your involve non-profits, public and private corporations, and the U.S. Government. Attorney Brian Levy, in his most recent Mortgage Musings, questions the effectiveness of the federal government’s housing policies. At the city-level, in the last few months I’ve spent a fair amount of time in New York City. Affor ....
