Genevieve County Commission’s warnings about the erosion of Becker road continue to play over and over. In February 2017, Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson expressed concern about Fourche a DuClos Creek eating into the road bank. Even then, he was already expressing frustrations about trying to get the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to take the issue seriously. “We’ve sent letters and pictures,” Nelson said in 2017. “We’ve been playing this game for eight years. It’s four feet from washing out.” ....
By Editor | April 28, 2021 y MARK EVANS [email protected] Although the Lawrenceton Cutoff Road project, with its Highway Y and Roth Road (an extension of Lawrenceton Cutoff) intersection improvement has caused the county to exceed its allocated budget for prep rock, the Ste. Genevieve County Commission is not panicking. The intersection itself took some 12,000 tons of rock. “We never anticipated anything like that,” Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson said during last Thursday’s County Commission meeting. “We’re four months into the year and we’re already over budget on prep rock.” He was quick to note, however, that “We’re not going to go broke.” ....

The County Commission voted last Thursday to reascend the mandate from last fall that face masks had to be worn to enter the building. With some 27 percent of the county vaccinated and numbers of confirmed active cases down, the commission decided to relax the entry requirement. Visitors will still have to get their temperature taken and certain offices within the building require masks – including the circuit court and circuit court clerk’s office. “You don’t have to have one to enter the building or to walk down the hall,” First District Commissioner Karen Stuppy said. ....
