Attorney Cautiously Optimistic About Land Owners Chances – Ste Genevieve Herald

By Editor | May 12, 2021 By MARK EVANS STE. GENEVIEVE HERALD Imminent domain attorney Paul Henry expressed cautious optimism about the ability of concerned landowners in Ste. Genevieve County to defend their land last Friday night. Henry addressed a crowd of well over 100 people at the Bloomsdale Knights of Columbus Hall, concerned about an attempt by Citizens Electric Corporation (CEC) and Wabash Valley Power to build a 19,000-kilowat power line through the county. The meeting was organized by Heather Carron, who along with Andy Bartek and Kyla Parker, had expressed concern and frustration about the situation at a Ste. Genevieve County Commission meeting in April.

Lake Genevieve Sewage Issue Cannot Be Ignored Any Longer

Genevieve County commissioners that action needs to be taken on sewage draining into Lake Genevieve. Sewage has flowed from a neighboring property for some time and has been documented by the county health department. It has run beside a road that runs around the back side of the lake and has flowed over the road, into the lake. Williams said the property owner is an elderly man from St. Louis. He said he has spoken with the man’s son, who manages the rental property, by phone. Williams said he had not been cooperative.

Commissioners Still Fighting To Save Becker Road From Erosion

Genevieve County Commission’s warnings about the erosion of Becker road continue to play over and over. In February 2017, Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson expressed concern about Fourche a DuClos Creek eating into the road bank. Even then, he was already expressing frustrations about trying to get the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to take the issue seriously. “We’ve sent letters and pictures,” Nelson said in 2017. “We’ve been playing this game for eight years. It’s four feet from washing out.”
