Vikings head to Delaware State Track & Field Championships

The Cape Henlopen Vikings will take part in the Delaware State Championships this Friday and Saturday at Dover High School.
The following is a preview of the Vikings who are in the top eight athletes in the state in each event:

The Cape at Smyrna track meet on brisk Friday afternoon was a made-for-TV afternoon special, a story about kids suited for the child in all of us. 
“A picture was done by the Smyrna girls for us and it was great . we arrived, and chairs were set up for our team and an empty chair was put out front with a framed picture and a poster that said, ‘Fly high Maggie from the Smyrna girls,’” said coach Tim Bamforth. “A class team and a great coach in Maura Schafer.” ....

The Cape boys’ winter track team finished third in the state with 72.5 points, behind state champion Sallies with 117 points and runner-up Smyrna with 86 points. 
The Cape girls’ team finished fifth with 38 points. Padua took home the trophy with 178 points, followed by Ursuline with 82, Smyrna with 61 and Tatnall with 59 points.
Cape thrower Josiah Miller won his first state individual title in the shot put with a toss of 46-feet-10-inches. Sophomore Ryan Baker ran his season and personal best in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:02.96, good for second place. Junior John Small was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.72, while in the 200-meter dash, Ja’on Harris was fifth in 23.68 and Konner Knarr was seventh in 23.87. Andrew Wolak finished fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 53.12, while the Vikings were third in the 4-by-200 relay in a ....

Cape winter track teams win tri-meet

The Cape Henlopen Vikings hosted their first tri-meet of the winter track season at Legends Stadium Feb. 24 against the Senators of Dover and the Eagles of Smyrna.  
The meet attracted the best weather of the season with clear skies and temperatures in the high 50s. We saw some good performances from all three teams.
“It was good just to finally have a nice track day and see the kids finally put together some good performances,” said Cape girls’ assistant coach Gilbert Maull. “All three teams have some good-looking athletes who are going to score well at next week’s state championship meet.” ....
