Hundreds of local Democratic Party committee members will choose a nominee today for the upcoming special election to fill the 22nd state Senate District seat vacated by John Blake.
Committee members from Lackawanna, Luzerne and Monroe counties will choose between two potential nominees between noon and 5 p.m., Lackawanna County Democratic Party Chairman Chris Patrick said. The two potential nominees are state Rep. Marty Flynn, D-113, Scranton, and Rep. Kyle Mullins, D-112, Blakely. More than 300 committee members are eligible to vote.
Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the Senate’s presiding officer, is expected Monday to set the special election date, but Patrick anticipated the election will be the same day as the May 18 primary election. The winner will replace Blake, who resigned Monday for a job as U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright’s district director. ....
