as the crowd size swelled and tempered flared. police say demonstrators were refusing to follow orders to stay off the road and several tried to interfere when an arrest was made. and in oregon pepper spray was used to disperse dozens of people. ten were arrested. in rhode island a fight broke out among protesters. police say off duty an off duty officer and state senate candidate punched his political rival, jennifer rork. she says it happened as she attempted to deescalate the situation. we have reportered on the kr ground covering on the latest. let s go to the u.s. supreme court first. we ve been seeing crowds swelling. how does it look today, this sunday? reporter: that s right. we certainly have. we re in the shadow of the supreme court here as you can see there is a large and very vocal crowd behind me. it has been growing slowly all day. and this frankly is the scene that we have seen outside of the supreme court for the last three days since that ruling ....
just it s a tense moment. we re on the outside of the main protest here. as you can see, there is a small group of people protesting who are in support of the supreme court decision. and what we re seeing is really a conversation, passionate conversations taking place. both sides arguing, and, in fact, there was a larger group out here getting in an argument a few minutes ago at one point someone swiped a megaphone from the other crowd and they were given a verbal warning from the d.c. metropolitan police who moved in some other police forces just to protect this area over here, but i want to give you a sense of the broader flavor certainly as these sorts of conversations are playing out not only here but deeper into this crowd. this is a crowd of a couple 100 strong. we do see some counter protesters, some protesters who are out here kneeling and praying over here. and certainly some other protesters talking to them, i think overall things have been respectful here. ....
all right. we are in los angeles where more demonstrations are planned there. california is one of a handful of states vowing to protect a woman s right to choose. what s going on? hey, fred. the protest here is expected to start in about an hour or so. this will be the third day of protest here in los angeles. and the message that i m consistency hearing from these protesters is that they stand with the women in other states that will not have access to abortions. california as you mentioned, is just one of a number of states where governors and legislators are saying we will fight back. and what they re doing is anything they can to expand access and even money for abortions, donations. and then they re going a step further and saying they re going to do everything they can to protect women in other states that will likely come to, say, kra ya, washington state, minnesota in search of an abortion. the governor of washington state saying that his state is a ....
Degrees today c that won t be a record. the record was set last year on this date, 116. but still plenty hot. then southern and central kra ya, temperatures expected between 102 through 107. in some places it could be hotter like fresno, bakersfield, bar stow expecting triple digits. fresno, 107 today. 108 tomorrow. those could challenge records. across the deep south, not as hot. but a couple places under heat advisory. little rock, jackson could see the heat index between 105 and 110. showers and thunderstorm developing that cool some folks off. so the oppressive heat from last week will take a break for a couple days. and also i m watching these storms south of new orleans, and so is the hurricane center. 20% chance that something there could develop over the next couple days and there s a 70 % chance that this in the eastern ....
Everyone is talking about how great it is going to to be to have a wet winter, but what we don t need though is a lot of rain. what we need in california is snow. that is what we won t be getting this winter. this storm not related to the el nino condition develop iing offf the coast, but it is indicative of the things to come, because we have been suffering the the drought for so many years, and in fact, we watched these hillsides here burn twice in the last four years, and if you will look across the street, you will see that it is a dry lake bed here. and they were actually using this lake two years ago to draw water out with the helicopters to douse the flames. and now it is a dry lake bed, and everything else around us is wet and muddy. this is a problem. this is an ongoing problem, and they expect in the lake hughes ear kra ya, a week to feel ....
