TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Sue Semrau, the longest-tenured head coach in the ACC and Florida State’s all-time winningest coach, announced Monday that she is retiring as head women’s basketball coach at Florida State University. The Associated Press, WBCA and ESPNW National Coach of the Year in 2015, Semrau guided the Seminoles to 16 NCAA Tournaments, Elite Eight appearances in 2010, 2015 and 2017, and was voted ACC Coach of the Year four times over her 24 seasons.
“It’s been a joy and a privilege to be the head coach at Florida State University,” Semrau said. “Thank you to the amazing players and the talented and diligent members of our staff, you have given me millions of moments to cherish, and friendships for a lifetime. The countless supportive and hard-working administrators, faculty and staff have enriched my life.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball plays in its regular-season home finale on Thursday vs. No. 22 Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center on the ACC Network. The event will be Senior Night, where FSU will honor five seniors starting at 5:41 p.m.
The five seniors being honored include guards Tiana England, Bianca Jackson, Morgan Jones, Kourtney Weber and forward Valencia Myers.
The Seminoles (14-12, 8-8) and Yellow Jackets (19-8, 10-6) meet for the second time this season, as Georgia Tech squeaked past FSU in the first matchup, 68-64. FSU’s 64 points scored were the most allowed by Georgia Tech’s vaunted defense up to that point of the season, and FSU held a seven-point lead with 3:54 remaining before the Yellow Jackets came back to win.

The contest will air on several of the ACC’s regional sports networks, including Bally Sports Sun. The Seminoles (8-7, 2-3) lead the Hurricanes (9-6, 2-3) in the all-time series, 48-16, and have won the last seven games played in Tallahassee. A balanced scoring effort by four returning Seminoles highlighted FSU’s 67-59 win vs. Miami in their last meeting at the Tucker Center on Feb. 14, 2021. Kourtney Weber led FSU with 15 points, while Bianca Jackson had 13 and Valencia Myers and Sammie Puisis each added 12 points in the victory. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball prepares for a busy three-game schedule this week, first playing Clemson on the road at LittleJohn Coliseum on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
The meeting between the Seminoles (7-7, 1-3) and Tigers (6-10, 0-5) is the 61st in series history. The two familiar foes will be playing each other twice this week, as the Tigers make the return trip to Tallahassee on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Tucker Center.
The last two matchups between Clemson and Florida State have gone down to the wire. Their last meeting on Jan. 21, 2021, resulted in a 95-88 double-overtime win by FSU as current senior Morgan Jones went off for 36 points, while Clemson’s Delicia Washington had 33 points in the home win for FSU. On Dec. 17, 2020, Clemson squeaked out a 72-69 win over the Seminoles at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Thursday’s game is another big opportunity for the Seminoles in terms of NET wins. Georgia Tech comes to Tallahassee 25th in the NET while FSU is 48th. FSU owns solid NET wins this year at Virginia Tech (27th), at North Carolina (37th) and home vs. Syracuse (42nd).
FSU’s offensive performance last game vs. Miami was pretty efficient. The four double-figure scorers for the Seminoles (Kourtney Weber: 15, Jackson: 13, Sammie Puisis: 12, Valencia Myers, 12) were their most since also having four in double digits at Virginia Tech on Dec. 31.
Over the last four games, opponents have shot just 20 percent (18-of-90) from beyond the arc. Over the first nine games, opponents were shooting 33.8 percent (48-of-142). FSU went from last in the ACC in 3-point field goal percentage defense to seventh since the start of 2021.
