The teenager went missing on Thursday while swimming with other pupils at a beach at the Palm Springs Resort. She was from Zwelitsha, outside King William s Town. Eastern Cape police have opened an inquest into the death of a 15-year-old who drowned during a school camping trip at Palm Ridge Holiday Resort near East London. An investigation is undertaken whenever someone has died. An inquest has been opened as per the law, the investigation into the incident continues, said police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni. ....

On Thursday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in East London was activated after the teen was reported missing at sea. Police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni confirmed that the body of the teenager washed up on Friday morning, 30 April. “Police search and rescue found the body washed up on the shore about 100m from where she went missing,” he said. ....

Tooth marks in his body board, which was recovered later, were confirmed to be those of a large a great white shark. Maya Gitter-Fox, a veterinary student from the US who is working as a volunteer at Chinsta, started the crowdfunding initiative, and said while the Chintsa community had come together in support of Frauensteinâs family, she and other volunteers hoped to raise support from around the world through the initiative. ....

A man and a woman arrested for the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition are expected to appear in the magistrate s courts in Qumbu and Tsolo respectively in the Eastern Cape on Monday. Police arrested the two separately during weekend operations to eradicate illegal firearms in Mncetyana, Tsolo and Qumbu. The 59-year-old male suspect from New Homes location, Qumbu, was arrested and charged for illegal possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. One 9mm Norinco with a magazine and one live round were recovered. The 49-year-old female suspect was arrested for the same offence at Azania Hlongwane Street, Tsolo, police spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni said. ....
