Ribble Valley: resignations hit council Conservative group


Alston and Hothersall ward s Jim Rogerson has resigned while Salthill s Ian Brown has been suspended.
Their departures recall the split in the authority s Tory group in 2018 when several councillors quit eventually leading to then council leader Ken Hind s resignation.
The news comes as the party seeks to defend three council bye-elections on May 6.
Cllr Brown was suspended by Ribble Valley Conservative Association for standing as an independent against official candidate Sue Hind, whose husband Ken is the party election agent, in the Lancashire County Council poll for Clitheroe Division on the same day.
He said: I have no regrets. I have represented Clitheroe on the county council for eight years. The selection process was flawed. ....

Clitheroe residents brand council 'absolute disgrace' after 57 new homes approved despite objections

Residents in an East Lancashire town have been left bitterly disappointed after the council approved plans for 57 new homes, despite solid opposition from councillors and the local community.
People living in Clitheroe, who state their area is already over-developed, were dealt another blow after Ribble Valley Borough Council approved plans to build 57 new homes on land at the end of Hawthorne Place.

Persimmon Homes lodged the application on December 17 2019 to build a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroomed terrace, semi-detached and detached properties, but residents living on Hawthorne Place and adjoining Waddington Road said the development would cause more traffic, road safety and infrastructure problems in the already congested town. ....
