Good morning. Its wednesday 17th january. Im annita mcveigh. Welcome to bbc newsroom live. More nurses left the nhs in england last year thanjoined. The statistics, given exclusively to the bbc, reveal that more than 33,000 gave up jobs with the service, thats 3000 more than signed up. The Royal College of nursing says more must be done to support younger nurses at the start of their careers. Heres our Health Correspondent, dominic hughes. She became a nurse to help people, excited at the prospect of making a difference but in the end, the job overwhelmed mary trevelyan. I would end up in tears during a shift because there wasjust so much pressure and stress. A never ending list of things to do, guilt over not having enough time to care for patients. Stress led to depression and mary has had to leave thejob she loved.
