Birthday party attendance lands man in police custody

Premium Content Subscriber only A man who was arrested by police after attending a birthday celebration at a local nightspot, appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order. Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd read the facts of the man’s case to the court and Acting Magistrate Damian Carroll. There is a current protection order naming the respondent (defendant in the matter) and the aggrieved which specified the respondent cannot follow or approaching within 100 metres of the aggrieved. On May 9, about 12.30am, police attended a nightclub in Gladstone in relation to a man being detained by security for another matter.

Drug-driver claimed cannabis helped him sleep better

Geno Anaru Van Zyl, 26, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to drug-driving. Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd read the facts of Van Zyl’s case to the court and Acting Magistrate Damian Carroll. On November 10 last year, about 6.53am, Calliope Road Policing Unit officers intercepted Van Zyl on the Bruce Highway, Bororen. He submitted to a roadside drug test, which returned a positive result, and he was taken to a police vehicle for further testing. When questioned, Van Zyl made admissions to smoking a cannabis joint as he was on his way to work in Agnes Water.

Unlicensed man smoked cannabis before driving

Christopher John Crawford, 52, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to both offences. Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd read the facts of Crawford’s case to the court and Acting Magistrate Damian Carroll. Police intercepted Crawford driving a silver Alpha Romeo on Dawson Rd, Gladstone, on March 5. Police checks on Crawford’s driver’s licence revealed it had been SPER suspended on February 14. Further, Crawford submitted to a roadside drug test and he subsequently returned a positive to cannabis.
