It is both a privilege and a sad task to write in my column today about a woman I and many others have admired for years, and who now suddenly is taken away. She lived a long life, but even so it feels like she is gone too soon.
That woman was Betty Carter Justis, known locally for her remarkable capabilities as a public servant, and even more for a friendliness and personal grace that embraced the people and community around her with effortless ease.
And if she embraced the people of Greene County, so they embraced her in turn. As Roger Woolsey said to me Tuesday, in terms of the public attitude toward her, Betty could still have been elected circuit court clerk as long as she chose to run, if not for the inevitable declines and frailty that age brings. She served for 16 years before retiring. ....

A man has been taken to hospital with serious head, chest and shoulder injuries after a three-metre wall fell on him in Sydney s eastern suburbs on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to a construction site on Gilgandra Road, North Bondi, shortly before 8am following reports that a brick wall had collapsed on a person.
The incident occurred on the same site where a different wall collapsed on October 30.
The previous incident at the Bondi site has no relationship to the current matter and remains under active investigation, a spokesman for SafeWork NSW said.

A 24-year-old worker suffered serious injuries to his chest and head when a three-metre brick wall collapsed on him in Sydney s east.
The man fell on a sharp object and was hit with falling bricks after the wall gave way at a worksite on Gilgandra Avenue, North Bondi, about 8am today.
Unfortunately he suffered quite significant injuries to his head, chest and shoulder from the falling bricks, NSW Ambulance Duty Operations Manager Kay Armstrong said.
