Barton, Fraley Earn All-American Honors Saturday

Results (PDF) EUGENE, Ore. - The Clemson women’s track and field team collected two All-American honors on Saturday during the final day of competition at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. As a team, Clemson’s women finished 32nd overall after earning 8 points at this year’s championships. “It’s been a great season,” said Clemson’s Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mark Elliott. “ It was big time to have both programs score [points]. We obviously want to feel good about it, but then we also have to start working towards the next season.” Barton capped an illustrious 2021 season on Saturday by finishing second overall during the women’s 800-meter final, crossing the line in 2:00.65 with 400m splits of 57.96 and 1:02.70. Barton’s final time is a personal best, makes her tied for No. 15 on the all-time collegiate performers list, and improves her No. 2 all-time mark on the Tigers’ top-10 list for the women’s outdoor 800m. Track & Field Garners Three First-Team All-America Honors Friday

EUGENE, Ore. - The Clemson track and field program collected three first-team All-America honors during the final day of men’s competition at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening. Clemson’s men finished in a tie for 20th overall after scoring 20 points as a team, making it the Tigers’ best team finish since the 2002 championships.  Roje Stona earned first-team All-American honors in the men’s discus after finishing as the national runner-up after throwing 61.94 meters (203 feet, 2inches) in the second round. Friday evening saw Stona complete a series of  55.55m-61.94m-X-57.89m-60.35m-61.20m. Stona’s final result allowed him to become the first Tiger to collect first-team honors in the event since Jack Harkness finished second overall at the 1982 championships. In men’s program history, this is just Clemson’s fourth first-team honor in the discus.  The Tigers’ 4x100m relay put together one of its best efforts of the season, as the te

Barton Advances to 800m Final, Fraley Finishes 17th in Shot Put on Thursday

EUGENE, Ore. – Laurie Barton was Clemson’s lone athlete to advance out of her event’s semifinal round during the second day of competition at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Barton, the 2021 indoor national runner-up in the same event, comfortably secured her spot in Saturday’s final after finishing second in the opening heat after running 2:02.25.  Barton’s heat proved to be the fastest of the day, thanks to Arkansas’ Shafiqua Maloney leading the pack through 400m in 58.04 seconds. A series of tactical moves along the backstretch allowed Barton to slide into second with 200m remaining, and the native of Clemson, S.C., cruised down the homestretch to easily secure her spot in Saturday’s final. Clemson last had a woman in the outdoor final of the 800m during the 2015 championships, a meet which saw Natoya Goule finish sixth overall after running 2:05.19.
