Frank forr, and former deputy white house press secretary, bill burton. joining us from boston, harvard law school professor charles ogle tree. professor ogle tree, i d like to go to you first. we spoke on friday night about this, and in the days since i ve been actually quite happy at the reaction from some in the conservative and republican circles about the need to have a broader conversation about race. my question to you is, where does the country go from here? the president did not exactly outline a path and i wonder as you ve thought about this in the days since where do you think we need to go nationally? i ve been thinking about this a long time, alex. i m glad that the president at least said let s have a conversation on race. we are a divided nation and i think that is a problem. i think what we need to do is have these local community meetings talk about race. bring not just your friends but people who you may view as your enemies who don t want to have this conversation ....

Lost her deal through twitter zeal. the woman known as juror b37, not her real name, jesse, surprised a lot of people when she signed with a literary agent two days after quitting george zimmerman. one twitter user was outraged and tweeting, hey, charlene martin, please drop junior juror b37. don t help the person who let a murderer get away profit. she continued to tweet at martin and launched an on-line petition that garnered over a thousand signatures. a few hours later the agent posted after careful consideration of the book project with zimmerman juror i decided to rescind my offer of representation. then she tweeted a statement from the juror herself saying i have realized that the best direction for me to go is away from writing any sort of book and instead to life as it was ....

Their minds made up no matter what story was told. ben? we ve always said this was going to be a litmus test how far we had come in equal justice, because you want to believe no matter who is on a jury, that the victim, whoever they may be, can get a fair trial. and we were hoping for that. but as mr. martin was alluding to, they never saw trayvon s perspective. when you listen to the person you interviewed, they always looked at it from the adult perspective. they never looked at it from a child s perspective, trying to get home running, with the objective evidence. and that trayvon was defending his life. he went to his grave not knowing who this creepy strange man was. we got to take a quick break. when we come back, i want to talk more about what the jury perceived. i interviewed juror b37. ....

Presence of it. and even juror b37 who was interviewed talked about how stand your ground influenced the verdict. listen to, this e.j. because of the two options you had, second-degree murder or manslaughter, you felt neither applied? right. because of the heat of the moment in the stand your ground. he had a right to defend himself. if he felt threatened, that his life was going to be taken away from him or he was going to have bodily harm, he had a right. that s how we read the law. that s how we got to the point of everybody being not guilty. in the heat of the moment, he had the right to defend himself, stand your ground. so even though it was not argued directly, it influenced instruction of the judge. it dealt with the whole understanding jurors had of where the law was now. that s why the law is so significant. and that s why the law is in the middle of this case. that s absolutely right. ....

Single day, it s a high pressure situation. the cost factor i always thought that the media should pick that up, because generally the reason you re sequestering them is to keep them isolated from the media. so i ve always thought if the courts were smart, they would charge for the pool coverage or something like that. easy for you to say, mark. i don t take a position on that. it s interesting when you have a jury like this, six people which as we learned from juror b37, when they got into that jury room, they were evenly divided. three people wanted not guilty, three wanted some sort of charge, two wanted manslaughter, one second degree murder. i m interested in the dynamic of how they change people s minds one way or the other. it s in virtually every case, except for maybe that marisa alexander, in almost every case ....
