on thursday. marking where two pd officers, richard cintolo and matt morris were shot and critically injured overnight. responding to a domestic dispute between two roommates. shots fired, officer down. reporter: the situation took a deadly turn when they encountered one of the tenants, the 33-year-old kirk figueroa who according to commissioner evans was armed with a tactical rifle and shielded by a ballistic vest. a hundred police officers with their guns drawn. it was very scary. some described this as a ferocious fire threat. he chose to use deadly force. when someone is going to use deadly force we re going to respond appropriately. reporter: hours lathe neighbors no longer felt threat later neighbors no longer felt threatened, but still shocked. more sad than shaken. we knew the officers. i pray for them. they are very easy going guys and they roble never expected something like this. tape still surrounds the house, we can tell you that the commissioner
john atwater spoke with someone who worked alongside those two officers. john? reporter: well, for the first time, we are hearing from the captain of the east boston district here. you know, it s not very often we see police officers get emotional but this captain knows full well he could have easily lost two men last night. they are alive today, in large part, thanks to their fellow officers. so many other people stepped up. we want to make them. they ve done the right thing by us. we have to do the right thing by them. you ve got to be so proud. oh, yeah. god! ah. yeah. there s no words. no words for what these guys do every day, last night. so i just want to support them. get them back make their good. reporter: the captain here just so thankful. they held a prayer vigil with the police commissioner and mayor. both richard cintolo and matt morris still in critical condition but the commissioner says they are expected to survive. certainly a relief to their families

emily: startling. cindy: 5:00 a.m. on a friday morning. that will wake you up. step outside this morning, and a little nip out there. it is breezy. that wind is really going to make a big difference this morning. the temperature is 48. we ve had colder mornings. but that wind out of the north-northwest sustained at 14, it is gusting higher. look at that along the coastline. we re gusting over 20 miles per hour. so definitely making a difference out there this morning even though the temperatures don t look all that bad. we re running 50 s north shore. low 40 s in worcester county. mid 50 s in the south shore, plymouth. the cape still running in the lower 50 s. here s the deal. we ve got clear skies, high pressure nosing in. so sunshine all day long, but this northerly wind is draining down cooler air. temperatures don t recover all that much. in fact, it s going to take until 9:00 a.m. to get you to 50 degrees, and we re still only in the lower 50 s here at luncht lunchtime.
