First-ever Providence Public Housing murals pay homage to immigrants

Angela AGONZA Gonzalez has a newly installed set of murals located at the Hartford Park housing development. This public art project is one of several taking place throughout the city as part of the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism (ACT) Public Art Residency, an initiative of the Departments Public Art Program. The six-month residency program places artists in city facilities to engage directly with residents and staff.
PROVIDENCE Providence artist Angela “AGONZA” Gonzalez was told that long ago, immigrants built the structures of the Hartford Park public housing projects. They built them strong, she said, and they filled the community that stretches through the western edge of the city. ....

PROVIDENCE — With a highly competitive 2022 Democratic gubernatorial primary taking shape, General Treasurer Seth Magaziner raked in nearly $300,000 in the first three months of 2021, the most he’s ever raised in a quarter.
And Governor Daniel J. McKee, the former lieutenant governor who replaced Gina M. Raimondo in March, raised about $285,000 in the first quarter, more than doubling his campaign cash. ....

If one had to look for a silver lining in all we have been through, among the biggest would be a reappreciation for connecting with nature and the value of safe, healthy open spaces.

With its first payout since reaching $10 million in endowed funds, the Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence will support critical initiatives outlined in the Turnaround Action Plan for Providence Public Schools.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] A total of $474,000 in grants from Brown University’s Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence will provide critical support in 2021 for Providence Public School District programs aimed at strengthening teaching and learning in the district’s Pre-K-12 classrooms.
A Public Education Committee composed of Providence and Brown community members voted unanimously to allocate the Fund’s 2021 payout to support key actions outlined in the district’s Turnaround Action Plan, which outlines steps underway to deliver transformative change to the city’s public schools over the next five years.  ....

PROVIDENCE — When the US Census Bureau announced on Monday that Rhode Island would keep its two seats in the US House of Representatives, the news certainly came as a relief to Representatives James R. Langevin and David N. Cicilline.
