The city Board of Parks Commissioners heard a proposal Wednesday from Ithaka LLC, a newly formed East Greenwich company, and its principal, Matthew Tsimikas, to take over the lease of the struggling venue.
The owners of the Skyline at Waterplace are asking the city of Providence to allow an East Greenwich company to take over their lease of the downtown event venue.
The business’ longtime CEO, Michael A. Mota, also used the wedding venue to host events for his entertainment company, VirtualCons. Skyline’s lawyer said he will appeal the eviction, which goes into effect immediately.
The trial, set for late February, would be nearly a year since the administration of Mayor Brett Smiley filed to have the Skyline group evicted for late rent payments, fire code violations, and unpaid taxes.
