Dodgers mourn passing of Tommy Lasorda Share January 8th, 2021 share-square-854880 Hall of Fame Dodgers’ manager Tommy Lasorda, who spent seven decades in the Dodger organization and became one of the most memorable personalities in baseball history, passed away Thursday night the team announced. He was 93. Lasorda suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home at 10:09 p.m. He was transported to the hospital with resuscitation in progress. He was pronounced dead at 10:57 p.m. Regarded by many as baseball’s most popular ambassador, Lasorda spent 71 seasons in the Dodger organization with Dodger Blue running through his veins. He spent the last 14 as special advisor to the chairman. ....

The city recently spent more than $1 million on new plow trucks to better clear its streets during major snow storms. This winter, though, the challenge will be keeping enough plow drivers on the job to operate the new machines amid a worsening pandemic. Syracuse Director of Operations Corey Driscoll Dunham said the public works department is developing plans to keep drivers safe and on the job, as well as contingencies in case there’s a Covid-19 outbreak that sidelines those drivers. Syracuse may see its first major snowfall of the year this week. ....
reporter: lake shore drive usually so lovely, looked like an apocalyptic movie set. mile after mile nearly a thousand cars stuck in snow so deep they could not possibly escape. in this section of lake shore drive just a mile north of downtown, we ve come across hundreds and hundreds of trapped cars as far as the eye can see. we checked for stranded motorists and found jocko collins. he came back after spending most of the night trapped in his truck. how long were you inside? i was inside with my neighbor next door here for about almost sketch hours. reporter: the monster storm roared in at rush hour. like a winter hurricane. multiple accidents backed up traffic so cars, trucks, even city buses were trapped. some ran out of gas. what was it like? cold and everybody was, you know, just trying to stay huddled in their car. reporter: all night long firefighters fanned out on snowmobiles to rescue the stranded. ....
