just look at this video here on your screen. flooding is wide spread. and some areas could see up to 20 inches of rain. more than 700,000 homes and businesses are now without power. and that number is sure to climb. officials say it could take weeks to fully restore power. now within the next hour or two, new orleans will be seeing its highest winds and heaviest rain. the levee system was vastly upgraded after katrina and holding as of now. south of the city, the rainfall and storm surge have pushed water over our levee in plaquemines parish. a flash flood emergency is in effect. i spoke to a critical care doctor in baton rouge bracing for the worst. we would be able to be the most significant event of our lifetime. we currently have a full hospital, but we re the regional medical center and so we are essentially acting that role. we have over 700 providers in the hospital. 50 of those are physicians. 400 are nurses. 300 are non-clinical. we re split into two staffs. ....

27th. i m brianna keilar alongside john berman. and the danger level is rising in the final days of the evacuation and withdrawal from afghanistan. this morning, the united states is pressing on with evacuations. we just learned that u.s. and coalition forces evacuated 12,500 people from afghanistan here in the last 24 hours. that is despite twin suicide bomb attacks at the kabul airport. president biden and his top military commanders are promising to do everything possible to get every american out. overnight, the death toll among u.s. service members rose to 13. more than 90 afghans were also killed in these airport bombings. 150 more were wounded. the president is vowing to hunt down and punish those responsible. this morning we re pressing for answers on what that might mean and what that might look like. this morning, large crowds gathered once again outside the airport in kabul. even after the attacks. and the head of u.s. central command warns that new threa ....
the u.s. military and taliban tried to expert what authority they could. militants with rifles kept crowds away from the airport gates guarding checkpoints with trucks and at least one humvee by the roads. many with bags at their sides numbers in the hundreds, not the thousands of previous days. the security situation turning the united states and the taliban into strange bed fellows. seth moulton went on a controversial and unauthorized trip to kabul this week described the scene before the bombing and how the marines are working with the taliban. it s an impossible task we ve given them to literally sift through a sea of humanity, thousands and thousands of afghans to try to pluck out our allies, our friends and their families, their husbands, their wives, their little girls and boys, literally pull them to freedom. i expected to see a gate with marines on one side and afghans on the other. that s not the way this could work. we have to go out in the crowd. so these ....
the world, it is thursday, august 26th. i m brianna keilar alongside john berman. we re beginning with significant breaking news. sources telling cnn that the frantic evacuation effort in afghanistan is in its final 36 hours. there are still u.s. citizens trying to get out of kabul. others possibly stuck outside the city. and the fate of thousands of green card holders and their families growing dim. these are legal, permanent residents of the u.s., like a philadelphia family with small children who we featured on our show yesterday. for many afghans who worked with u.s. troops, their hopes to escape may now be dashed though u.s. efforts are under way to help almost 2,000 local embassy staff try to get out. so 36 hours left. which is not much. and the complications are only compounded by the huge security risks. overnight, the u.s. embassy blasted an urgent warning to all americans don t travel to the airport and people at certain gates they say leave immediately. one ....
