A West Virginia nursing assistant and Army veteran who admitted to killing seven elderly men at a Veteran’s Administration hospital over a year-long period ending in 2018 will be jailed for the rest of her life, a court ruled on Tuesday. 
Reta Mays, an Army National Guard vet who served in a non-combat position in Iraq and Afghanistan, pleaded guilty in 2020 to the seven killings at Clarksburg’s Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center at a July plea hearing. A federal judge handed the 46-year-old consecutive life sentences on Tuesday afternoon for each of the seven counts of second-degree murder she said she committed.  ....

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (Tribune News Service) A former nursing assistant who confessed to murdering seven elderly patients at a local VA hospital and attempting to murder an eighth will spend the rest of her life in prison.
U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh called Reta Mays a monster of the worst kind. You are the monster no one sees coming. During a hearing Tuesday, he sentenced Mays to life in prison for each murder victim, plus 20 years for the eighth victim she tried to kill.
Mays is not eligible for probation for the seven life sentences, Kleeh said. She was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims of the families. ....

During a hearing Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Thomas Kleeh called Reta Mays, 46, a monster of the worst kind. You are the monster no one sees coming. He delivered a life sentence for each murder victim, plus 20 years for an eighth victim she tried to kill.
Mays sobbed as Kleeh sentenced her. When a U.S. marshal approached her after the hearing, she sat down and buried her head in her hands, crying. She got up, and she was handcuffed and led out of the courtroom.  ....

Washington, DC - Elizabeth Jo Shirley, of Hedgesville, West Virginia, was sentenced Monday to 97 months of incarceration for unlawfully retaining documents containing national defense information and 36 months of incarceration for international parental kidnapping.
Shirley, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of willful retention of national defense information and one count of international parental kidnapping in July 2020. Shirley admitted to unlawfully retaining a National Security Agency (NSA) document containing information classified at the Top Secret/Secret Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) level relating to the national defense that outlines intelligence information regarding a foreign government’s military and political issues.
