Yanchev Clocks Career Best on Opening Night of NCAAs

Results Atlanta, Ga.  – The 2022 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships opened on Wednesday night with No. 23 Florida State contributing personal best swims at the McAuley Aquatics Center. Yordan Yanchev led off the 800 free relay, contributing a personable best in the 200 free at 1:34.95. The performance now ranked eighth in school history.

No 23 Noles Head to NCAA Championships

Tallahassee, Fla.  –  The 2022 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will begin on Wednesday night at the McAuley Aquatics Center with a pair of relays. The 23rd-ranked Seminoles will compete in the 200 medley relay at 6 p.m., followed by the 800 free relay. “We’re excited for the men’s meet this week,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We have all five relays going with a shot at scoring, so that is a extra special. It should be a great week for us.” Prelims will start on Thursday at 10 a.m. with FSU’s three individual qualifiers, Max McCusker, Yordan Yanchev and Mason Herbet competing. The top 16 will advance to finals at 6 p.m. and relays will be included at the end of each finals session. All sessions will air via ESPN 3 and live timing will be available through meet mobile.

Results ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 21/24 Florida State swimming and diving teams saw two school records fall on the second day of the 2022 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatics Center. Yordan Yanchev established a new mark in the men’s 500 free at 4:14.16, taking down one of the oldest swimming records in the books, set by Kyle Young back in 2009 at 4:14.60. Nina Kucheran lowered her 200 IM record to 1:56.68 after she set the standard back in November at 1:57.56. “Both Nina and Yordan had great days,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Nina had two awesome swims and looks set up for her best events later this week. Yordan really attacked tonight and dropped six seconds from the morning swim. It’s pretty exciting that he took down one of our oldest records.”

Kucheran Lowers FSU Record on Final Night

Atlanta, Ga.  –  On the final night of the Georgia Tech Invite, Nina Kucheran lowered her school record in the 200 breast with at time of 2:08.57 (NCAA B) for silver. In prelims, Kucheran turned in a time of 2:11.36 and was seeded fifth for the final. At night she climbed to second, turning in a new personal best, a mark she set at the 2019 ACC Championships (2:08.78). Pia Murray led off the session by taking bronze in the 200 back, touching at 1:55.73 (NCAA B), which was just off her best (1:55.21). Maddie McDonald followed in seventh at 1:57.39. The Noles had two in the top heat of the 100 free, led by Rebecca Moynihan in sixth at 49.60 and Zsofia Kurdi in seventh (49.72). Kurdi would lead off the 400 free relay with her fastest split, touching at 49.50. Rookie Edith Jernstedt turned in her best at 1:58.26 and Hannah Womer also clocked her career best at 1:58.57.
