president as well. but that s a good i don t know if you have anything more on the first lady, but obviously i think she will continue stay away from the president as well. smart decision, but we don t try to tell the first lady what to do. i feel some trepidation talking about what the first lady so, first of all, the first lady spoke to this directly. she s feeling fine. just want to make sure that s clear. she s going to continue to follow the cdc guidance and she s going to continue to wear a mask, and so that s what she is going to that s what she s going to do moving forward. go ahead. dr. jha, you said you talked about the test he had, what is the testing cadence going to be, will he be tested daily, and will it be rapid tests or pcr tests? so i don t know that there is much value of a pcr test at this point. it will be positive for a while, right. so i don t actually know what his testing cadence is going to be. cdc does not recommend any testing ....
just in the nomination process, essentially they re to get all 50 senate democrats here. we re looking for them to start this whole process in a matter of hours. the big question mark is when exactly will they do that. we don t quite know. they re waiting on a couple of things. you mentioned the senate parliamentarian. they re using a specialized budget process to move forward. they only need democratic senate support to get it through the senate but in order to use that process they have to make sure, they have to go through the parlia parliamentarian to finish. so they re waiting on a few more rulings from her and also waiting from the congressional budget office on how much some of these provisions will cost and how they will affect the deficit. once they have all that have in place, senate democrats can feel comfortable with a motion to proceed, which is essentially the first vote to kick off what is a very long and tedious process to get this across the finish line ....
Adhering to them, kids are going back to school, in some cases a few days from now. how should these school districts approach this? kids, families, they want these kids to be back in school without masks, et cetera. but we still do have a number of cases out there. what are you hoping the cdc might say? right. my hope is that we continue to remember that mitigation is always layered, that it s never just one thing, and that to deemphasize one thing doesn t necessarily say that it s no longer a consideration. it s always about doing additive approaches to make sure we are reducing risk, not eliminating it, but making risk as low as possible. the pediatric population, the 5 to 11-year-olds, only 29% is the last average of fully vaccinated in that population. that s very low. because that have low uptick of vaccines, we need to rely on all the other tools in our toolkit which is masking and distancing and practicing proper quarantine and isolation protocols. ....
Sick. the cdc also recommending that students sit three feet apart in those classrooms when they re there in person. cdc director walensky talked about this omicron wave, and how those some early research shows that those who have been infected with the delta variant may have some or those who have been infected with the omicron variant may have protection against the delta variant but it doesn t go both ways. if you ve had the delta variant you can still be susceptible to omicron. liz, interesting information there. i really appreciate that. i m going to leave that there for a second. i want to bring in dr. gerald harmon, the president of the american medical association, your organization made a few headlines this week when you called out the cdc and their shifting covid guidance. you said, quote, potentially hundreds of thousands of people could return to work, and school. infectious, if they follow the cdc s new isolation protocols. you also called them confusing. yesterday o ....
Doctor, let me start with you. he s been there a long time and makes a lot of money and wrong a lot. is that not a perfect example of washington, d.c.? well, pete, let s be honest. at this point i think we have not gotten anything right with covid-19 coming out of the white house and dr. fauci and the cdc. they flip flop every day. what i can tell you some of the verbiage coming out of dr. fauci recently talking about vaccine mandates for domestic air travel. shortening the isolation. i am a big fan of shortening the isolation and the post-exposure quarantine. that was far overdue. it had to be done. we have a man made worker shortage of the vaccine mandates and these long isolation protocols. m ....
