Three out of six buildings on Burns Road that were recently painted over under a beautification project by the district authorities were identified as listed heritage buildings on Monday.
All such buildings will be de-coloured, announced Sindh Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sardar Ali Shah, taking notice of the matter. ....

The city s South district is changing, opines Arsalan Chaurdhry, a Karachiite. All sorts of colours and monuments are seen in this part of the city.
Chaudhry was referring to the plethora of colours that have sprung up on at least four walls in the district, which also features The Chess Corner and a street library. It is a good move, commented Abdul Qayoom, who lives near Karachi s Abdullah Haroon Road, looking at the recently inaugurated, under construction largest chess corner of the port city.
With the city authorities aiming to open it for the public on the eve of New Year and completing the construction by December 25, Qayoom saw one of his fears dispelled during the past few days.

It used to be an ugly space and people often treated it as a garbage dump, he recalled pointing to the edge of Lily Bridge on Abdullah Haroon Road. I thought it would be occupied by land grabbers, but now it will of good use for all citizens, he added. [The chess corner] will attract citizens from all parts of the city. ....

Four infant monkeys were rescued from one of the city s largest bird markets on Friday following a tip-off and a raid by the Sindh wildlife department. The rescued animals will be released in Nathia Gali next month.
Finding out about the four baby monkeys, caged for sale, on social media South Deputy Commissioner Irshad Ahmed Sodhar alerted the wildlife department. On Sodhar’s indication, the SWD Karachi Raid and Rescue Party conducted a sweep at Empress Market in Saddar, said Deputy Conservator SWD Mumtaz Ali Soomro, speaking to The Express Tribune. “Wildlife trade is banned.” ....
