This morning s p indicated up by about 25 and nasdaq looks like it would open up by over 100 points fairly significant obviously everybody watching what will be happening with the stimulus talks with the deadline that nancy pelosi has said for later today. Welcome to weekends with alex witt. 11 years after the first state legalized samesex marriage, the Supreme Court is taking up the issue and could potentially make it the law of the land in just a few months. Yesterday the court agreed to hear arguments beginning in late april and a decision is expected in june. Joining me now in studio emma margolen. Lets talk about the states in question and how theyve been defending their ban. Theyve been defending their bans with everything theyve got. Weve heard arguments based on federalism to a precedent upholding samesex marriage bans to highly questionable recent stating that samesex calms make inferior parents. But the one argument that sticks is the one we heard in the sixth circuit ruling upholding these bans and thats based on states rights. Voters enacted these restrictions on marriage and those decisions should be respected by the courts.
