we are back monitoring the fragile truce in gaza. you are watching cnn news central. i m briana keilar in washington with wolf blitzer in tel aviv. another hostage release is under way as we speak. the idf says the latest group of women and children freed by hamas is with the red cross, and it s en route to israel after which more palestinian prisoners and detainees will be released from israeli custody. this is the fourth day of these exch exchanges. and now israel and hamas have agreed to extend this arrangement for two more days. wolf? very critical developments. very important developments, indeed. it s a critical two days right now for the families of the remaining 198 hostages. and for the residents of gaza who have seen a surge of badly needed aid enter during this entire temporary pause. president biden just released a statement on the extension thanking the leaders of israel, qatar, and egypt for getting it all done. cnn s oren liebermann is with me in tel ....
thank you so much for being with us. at this hour there are a lot of questions about where things are headed in israel and gaza. we could be just hours away from either military operations resuming in gaza to take out hamas, or the fragile truce between israel and hamas being extended. two very divergent paths this war could take today. and even before getting there, there is uncertainty about today s expected hostage release. so far 40 israeli citizens have been freed since the truce began and another 18 foreign nationals. at this moment today s release hangs in the balance let alone the possibility of an extension. the issue is where are the mothers? we are told there are no mothers on today s list and as part of the agreement mothers are supposed to be released with their children. now, as we wait to see how this develops, we are seeing new pictures of emotional family reunions, 9-year-old emily hand with her sister in the hospital, her father initially thought ....
i m brianna keilar in washington following breaking news. a diplomatic source now tells cnn that the handover for the fourth group of hostages in gaza should be complete within the hour. earlier there were significant delays over today s list of hostages. this news coming as we learn from qatar who has been obviously instrumental in these talks that the temporary truce between israel and hamas is now extending for another two days. so far 58 hostages have been set free over the last three days, 58 hostages from gaza. that number including 40 israelis, most of these women and children and in keeping with the current agreement israel has released 117 palestinians from prison, women and people 18 and under in those releases. hamas says it now has the list of prisoners to be released later today while israel has notified the families of the hostages who are expected to be freed today. we do have a team of correspondents tracking all of the latest developments. let s start n ....
