beyond tomorrow so that we can continue to see more hostages come out and more surge humanitarian relief into those in need in gaza. we've seen that this is a day by day, hour by hour and nothing is guaranteed. nothing is being taken for granted. but the proof that this is working and we're pursuing further is in every smile and every grateful to hear we see on the faces of those families who are finally getting back together again. the proof is little abigail. more than 20 other children 18 years and younger have been released. they been released to this deal as well. they've endured a terrible ordeal and they can now begin the long journey toward healing. i'm going to continue working with the mayor of qatar, the president of egypt and benjamin netanyahu of israel to do everything possible to see the hostages freed, all the hostages. i'm gratefulfor the personal partnership as we from this steel as we've mentioned. as we work together to see all this implemented and now to see all this implemented and now to try to extend it further. i will continue to work with all our partners to take the hard but necessary steps to build an integrated more prosperous and more peaceful future in the integrated more prosperous and more peacefulfuture in the region. a two state solution. it's the only way to guarantee a long—term security for both israelis and palestinian people. to make sure israel and palestinians alike live in equal measure of freedom and dignity. we will not give up on working towards that goal. thank you very much for that goal. thank you very much for that thank god she is home. i guess she can imagine the enjoyment. i wish i were there to hold her. they were still in gaza. thank you for your patience. all right. happy holidays. happy holidays to you guys. that was the us presidentjoe biden speaking lies about the latest release of that latest group of israeli hosta but hostages. he was focusing on one in particular, abigail dhould nationals citizen. she's four now in fact she was three on the 7th of october when she was taken hostage. it was actually her birthday during that time that she was in captivity. you heard joe biden talking about the diplomatic efforts going on behind the scenes to secure their release of her but also the other hostages as well. also confirming something that we heard that in fact the hostages for the first time crossed not through the first time crossed not through the rafah crossing between gaza and egypt but also the group of israelis went directly in to israel. one of the kibbutz that was attacked on the 7th of october. we want to show you live pictures of rafah crossing because that group as we have seen today on the third day, as we saw on day one end day due has contained extra hostages who were released, notjust extra hostages who were released, not just the extra hostages who were released, notjust the israelis who would do to be released under this deal. we've been seeing in the last few minutes once again some of those red cross vehicles passing through the rafah crossing. it would appear that the foreign passport holders, the non—israelis would look like they have still been taken into egypt first of all throughout rafah. president biden indicated there that this was somewhat of a last—minute change of plan. he talked about one of the hostages being quite ill and needing urgent medical treatment. he said that when he talked about them going directly into israel because of course at the moment there aren't really direct route into area sunak israel. at the northern end of the gaza strip, the normal one is the one that would normally be used to go straight into gaza into israel. that was destroyed and put out of action in those hamas attacks on the 7th of october. let's get a little more detailfrom more detail from sarah more detailfrom sarah davies. thank you forjoining us once again. we do appreciate your regular updates on this developing stories tell us a bit more about today's handover. we here it happened in the north of the gaza strip this time i cannot provide further information or details of the operation. for us the priority is really that operation and we cannot provide any further details until our part has been entirely concluded. this is notjust for the safety of course of the hostages in the current operation but also for any future operations. i know this is very frustrating but our priority is always the safety of those involved in these operations. okay. just for clarity, we did see and hear the us presidentjoe biden saying that those hostages were taken directly into israel today rather than through the rafah crossing. he appears to have confirmed it was clarity, there is nothing that you can add to that. there are a lot of sources, a lot of reports on this but at this time unfortunately, the confirmation cannot come from us.— unfortunately, the confirmation cannot come from us. okay. it's fair to say that — cannot come from us. okay. it's fair to say that as _ cannot come from us. okay. today. different from day one and two. talk a little bit more for us about the normal run of things. obviously, when you're red cross staff actually received the hostages, they were things that happen straightaway, things like medical check, aren't they are? fit medical check, aren't they are? of course when our teams do arrive at the meeting point and they are in the meeting point and they are in the process of receiving the hostages into their care to first priority is to really reassure them and let them know what's happening. ethic it's important to note that we're not entirely sure whether these hostages know what was going to happen to them or what is happening. they may not have been informed prior to meeting the red cross. our teams really let them know that we're here, we've got you, you are safe now. we will be transporting you across out of gaza where you will meet the israeli authorities, where you have medical checkups, psychological support and most important part is at the end of the day they will be reunited with their loved ones. {iii the day they will be reunited with their loved ones.— the day they will be reunited with their loved ones. of course tomorrow is neutral organisation, it really gets to the heart of what we do and why and how we're there. we would welcome any further that really needs to be done. but we can see the impact on families left in israel and of course those who are held hostage and now can't remain held hostage. of course there are so many still currently held hostage. also the civilians in gaza who have been living through a all former residents of one of the kibbutz attacked on the 7th of october but also many of the hostages that were released tonight from that particular kibbutz. you can see and hear their the released hostages being shown on the big screen, there were cries and applause. our bbc reporter said that people were hugging and holding one another. talking about the happiness and the thrill of seeing some of their community members returned into israel. there are still nine hostages from gaza. we know the deal as it stands at the moment only includes women and children, there were no men's being released as part of this deal. you're seeing those scenes, so many of these people who went through to gather, that traumatic experience on october the 7th haven't been back to the home sense and now find themselves watching those pictures, watching those live pictures of some of their friends, that community, their family members being released from captivity in gaza. i think we can speak to our washington correspondent about what president biden had to say. he was talking about one released hostage today in particular, who has israeli— american dual citizenship. tell us more about abigail. he american dual citizenship. tell us more about abigail.— american dual citizenship. tell us more about abigail. he has spoken ve often more about abigail. he has spoken very often about _ more about has spoken very often about his desire to get l very often about his desire to get abigail out of captivity. and reunited with the remainder of her family. he spoke to great length about how she ended up being captured by hamas as she was a three—year—old girl at the time and she turned four in captivity on friday. she was taken on october the 7th and her parents were killed during that attack. he spoke in detail about how she... her father was holding her, he was a photojournalist, he was holding her and she was covered in his blood and ran to the neighbours house. he said very simply, thank god she is home. but he wasn't really sure about what kind of condition that she was in. he has made it his stated intention to make sure that notjust the general hostages are released but americans in particular are released. it's not clear how many remain in captivity in gaza. but there is an estimated ten or so americans that are unaccounted for. he said in that speech that he will continue to work with the qatari government, expresses appreciation to the qatari leader and hope the partnership will continue. his direct interest in this is to ensure that all of the americans that are in gaza are released and reunited with their families. in gaza are released and reunited with theirfamilies. he in gaza are released and reunited with their families.— with their families. he talked is well, let's spend a few- with their families. he talked is well, let's spend a few minutes with their families. he talked is i well, let's spend a few minutes on the fact that the us has made it clear they want to see more hostages released. they've also made it clear they fully put israel's right to defend itself. the military operation, benjamin netanyahu, the prime minister said will continue. what kind of messages are the israelis getting from the us about how protecting civilians and eradicating hamas might be two compatible ames?— compatible ames? right in the beginning. _ compatible ames? right in the beginning, soon _ compatible ames? right in the beginning, soon after- compatible ames? right in the beginning, soon after octoberl compatible ames? right in the i beginning, soon after october the 7th the us government really was emphatic in defending israel and its right to defend itself. it's right to route hamas from gaza. but what we've seen over the last few weeks orso we've seen over the last few weeks or so is a softening of that stance, there's been this international outcry as israel continued to bombard gaza and with the humanitarian crisis that was unfolding and continues to unfold. he is tempered that message of israel's right to defend itself with this concern of the fate of the palestinian civilians. he's continued to put pressure on prime minister netanyahu to ensure that those civilian casualties are limited. what we've seen in the speech today was a focus really on what the end goal is. i'm sure that this is what has come up in those backroom conversations that they've been having with israel, that they want to see a two state solution in which the people of gaza are able to live and exercise their human rights as much as the people of israel have been doing. as much as the people of israel have been doing-— been doing. thank you for that. our correspondent _ been doing. thank you for that. our correspondent in _ been doing. thank you for that. our correspondent in washington. i been doing. thank you for that. our correspondent in washington. let's| correspondent in washington. let's look again at the scene live outside of the prison in the occupied west bank. we've been reporting the release and the return onto israeli soil, that latest group of israeli hostages. of course some of the key pillars of that deal is the release in exchange of palestinian detainees being held in israeli prisons and 39 of those are due to be released this evening. it is the thing at the end of the day that concludes each day of the day that concludes each day of this four day deal. they are released from ofer, the scene outside the prison. they are taking through the checkpoint back into the occupied west bank where they are reunited with friends and family and loved ones. another 39 we're told this evening, no men are being released as part of that deal. similarly no mail israeli hostages released. note mailed palestinian detainees released. nobody who has been convicted of murder —— no mail palestinians. all women, minors under the age of 18. who are suspected or convicted of crimes ranging from throwing of stones to attempted murder. pictures now on your screen, this is the rafah crossing between gaza and egypt. you can see a wall on the bottom of the screen. if you look carefully you can see the tops of those white red cross vehicles. you can see the flags, you can see the red cross flags, you can see the red cross flags flying as well on top of those vehicles. we heard from the us presidentjoe biden when he was speaking just about 20 minutes or so ago now that there was a slightly different state of affairs this evening, where the israeli hostages were brought directly into israel. he said that one of the hostages being transported was ill and needed immediate medical attention. he said provisions were made to actually not bring them through the rafah crossing, which is what normally happens but bring them through the perimeter fence from gaza directly into israel. i think those red cross vehicles we see moving at the rafah crossing, a slightly different angle here, as you see the convoy, the camera moving in a little bit more closely, that convoy of red cross vehicles, they will be carrying the foreign nationals who've been released. each day we've seen israeli hostages released. nobody really knows how many each day of these foreign passport holders will be released because it is outside the framework of the main deal between israel and hamas that was brokered by qatar. each day we have seen the additional releases. we believe tight nationals released today. also we believe that a russian national as well —— tied national. they said because of president vladimir putin is pro—palestinian stance they were releasing an extra hostage with russian citizenship. that is the scene there live at the rafah crossing just now. that's also the place that we have seen additional numbers of aid trucks moving through on each day of this for mac day deal. it made provision for a larger amount of eight —— four. at any point during the war, not enough 9991 point during the war, not enough egg, not the same egg going through before this war started. but more than 200 trucks a day with everything from the basics food, water, medicalsupplies, sanitary, water, medical supplies, sanitary, hygiene water, medicalsupplies, sanitary, hygiene supplies and also in important part of this deal was fuelled. fourtankers important part of this deal was fuelled. four tankers of cooking gas and four tankers of diesel, which were being passed through as part of the deal. what you see now, these are pictures recorded a little earlier at a hotel in tel aviv. these members of the community... these members of the community... these are live pictures now. we saw earlier people cheering and celebrating as the names and faces of hostages appeared on the screen. these are people who are all from the same kibbutz as those released this evening. which you may actually have seen inside, some of the reporting in the early days of this conflict when journalists were inside. one of the first kibbutz where journals inside. one of the first kibbutz wherejournals were inside. one of the first kibbutz where journals were allowed to go inside and take photos and videos. we saw there the destruction and the devastation of that kibbutz. that is why so many family members like the ones you are seeing there are out of their homes and have been for weeks now. the buildings you see now, this is snyder children's hospital in israel. it's not too far from is snyder children's hospital in israel. it's not too farfrom here in central tel aviv, only about 20 minutes away. this is one of the locations that those newly released hostages are taken to. you see them arrive by helicopter in the last few days. that may well be the same situation today for that we're told that there are lots of layers of extra medical support put in place for the released hostages who of course have physical, medical issues, some need to be dealt with. also of course the mental impact of having been held hostage for more than 50 days and being released, a lot of extra medical support has been put in place. let's once again of what the us president has to say a little more than 20 minutes ago he was speaking about the release of abigail idan, the four—year—old hostage. let's listen to those remarks from the us presidentjoe biden. remarks from the us president joe biden. ., , ., ., remarks from the us president joe biden. ., ., ., ., remarks from the us president joe biden. ., , ., ., ., ., ., biden. two days ago one of our fellow americans, _ biden. two days ago one of our fellow americans, a _ biden. two days ago one of our fellow americans, a little i biden. two days ago one of our fellow americans, a little girl. biden. two days ago one of our i fellow americans, a little girl name abba goal who turns four years old, she spent her birthday, that birthday and at least 50 days before that held hostage by hamas. today she is free and jill and i together with so many americans are praying for the fact that she's going to be all right. she's free and she is in israel now. so those who are now wrapping abigail in love and care, the support and services she needs, she went through a terrible trauma. her mum was killed in front of her when her kibbutz was attacked by hamas terrorists on october seven. abigail ran to her dad then then then was gunned down as well while using his body to shield little abigail. she then ran to a neighbour for help where they were all taken hostage, the entire house and neighbours taken hostage by hamas and held for 50 days for that which he endured is unthinkable. abigail was among 13 hostages released today from gaza under the brokered and sustained intensive us diplomacy. she is now safely in israel. and we continue to press and expect for additional americans to be released as well. we will not stop working until every hostage is returned to their loved ones. the us presidentjoe biden speaking in the last 30 minutes or so. he was answering questions, he said he didn't want to make that statement, until it was absolutely sure that abigail idan was safely back inside israel. just four years old, one of the youngest hostages to be taken. in fact she was only three years old when she was taken on that day, on the 7th of october. it was her birthday while she was in captivity. we know that the latest group of hostages has been released, we expect the release of palestinian prisoners. we will keep you up—to—date with the story. stay with us here on bbc news. hello there. good evening. it was another cold and frosty start this morning for many, including here in chatsworth in derbyshire, as captured by one of our weather watchers. it will turn briefly milder for many overnight tonight. but generally, the theme as we head through this week is it will stay cold as we head into the start of december. more frosty nights, icy stretches, freezing fog patches and wintry showers, even possibly to lower levels at times. but through the day today, we've been dragging in some milder air across much of northern ireland, england and wales, along with showery outbreaks of rain that will continue to extend a further northwards and eastwards through the night, perhaps as far north as the central belt of scotland. and then that rain will pull southwards as we head through the small hours of tomorrow morning. some wintry showers still piling into much of scotland, even perhaps to lower levels at times. still an air frost here and possibly still a touch of frost across northern areas of england, too, is that rain clears southwards, but a lot milder, frost—free for northern ireland, england and wales for the most part. now we could possibly see some snow over the tops of the pennines tomorrow morning, maybe even some of this rain falling as snow over the top of the peak district as well. but it will clear as rain further southwards and eastwards. it's blustery for these north sea facing coasts. there'll be some showers here again, wintry at times, perhaps a scattering of showers for the west. also some sunny spells, temperatures ranging between seven and 12 degrees celsius, still mild out towards the far south west of england. now that low pressure system will pull away into the near continent as we head through monday night and into tuesday, by which time will be coming to that colder feeling. watch out for some icy stretches, perhaps on tuesday morning where we will have seen the recent rain and there'll be more showers just moving into aberdeenshire, i think wintry in nature again, even to lower level. some showers moving into the south west of scotland, perhaps the far north west of northern ireland, too. but elsewhere, largely dry, plenty of added wind chill, a brisk northerly blowing, and temperatures are really struggling, particularly towards the north. now as we head through tuesday and into wednesday, we'll see some freezing fog patches. and then we're tracking this deep area of low pressure pushing in towards the south of england as that rain bumps into the colder air. there is a good chance that we could see some snow to lower levels across the south of england as we head through thursday, but still a lot of uncertainty in the forecast. here's the outlook for some of our cities as we head through the week. it will be staying cold. live from tel aviv, this is bbc news. israel confirms ia israeli hostages and three foreign nationals are now back in israel. hamas has confirmed the transfer. among the start of the conflict. he told his troops, "we'll continue until victory". meanwhile, this is the scene live at ofer prison, in the occupied west bank — an expected 39 palestinian detainees are to be released today. this is bbc news's and a foster live from tel aviv. these are pictures from tel aviv. these are pictures from the rafah crossing between the micro from egypt. we are seeing red cross vehicles moving from gaza into egypt. they travelled through the rafah crossing as usual, once again, those scenes of the white red cross vehicles flying the red cross flag, and you can see as we have done for the last few days, photographers gathering around those vehicles taking pictures. they don't have obscured or blacked out windows, you can see the hostages actually inside those vehicles as they are brought from gaza into egypt from where they are handed over to israeli officials, in this case potentially officials, in this case potentially officials from their home countries as well. and they are processed, have medical checks, then taken back inside israel. even though we are talking about people, not all israelis taken hostage on october seven, we've seen some agricultural workers released, we know a russian national has also been released today as well, so the are the latest pictures you're seeing on your screen of those red cross vehicles, passing from gaza into egypt through the rafah crossing. let's talk to our correspondent from bbc arabic. you're still at ofer prison, we were waiting to hear the release of 39 palestinian detainees, do we know if that's happened yet? just palestinian detainees, do we know if that's happened yet?— that's happened yet? just moments auo that's happened yet? just moments a . 0 we that's happened yet? just moments ago we saw — that's happened yet? just moments ago we saw movements _ that's happened yet? just moments ago we saw movements of - that's happened yet? just moments ago we saw movements of suvs i ago we saw movements of suvs carrying the flag of the red cloths dust red cross, coming in and out of the prison behind me, and it seems that the choreography is going smoothly so far because we know that the terms of the agreement stipulates that as soon is the hostages or detainees in gaza are in israeli custody, the israeli authorities have a window of two hours to start releasing the prisoners. so from what we sense here, that it might be imminent, the release of the palestinian prisoners, they will not come out from the gate behind me because this is a gate that's inside the israeli territory. the gate from which they will be released is around 400 metres from here, and it opens into the west bank, and this is where they will be released. and this is what we've been witnessing in the last few days, but so far, the choreography is going very smoothly. and just tell us a bit more about the types of people who are being released under that exchange deal. what we know so far is that most of them are minors, under 18 years old, and also they have short sentences. ijust and also they have short sentences. i just spoke to the prisoners and also they have short sentences. ijust spoke to the prisoners club, an ngo that works for the prisoners and detainees with them, and they told me that the longest sentence of one of the minors who is being released is 22 months, this is a sentence for throwing stones — he spent in prison i6 sentence for throwing stones — he spent in prison 16 months, and he was amongst those who spent the most time in prison. so most of them are minors who are convicted of offences like throwing stones or protesting against the israeli defence forces. we are also seeing pictures from a different angle outside of the prison there, we've also seen in the last few days scenes of real celebration of detainees being released to their families. where do they go when they leave ofer prison? after they leave ofer prison, under the palestinian authority, this is where they are processed to leave to see their families. those who leave israel art by law not allowed to celebrate, they signed documents not to celebrate, no gatherings — this is what's written in a document that the families have to sign. the families of those who live in israel, but those who are living in the west bank, it's a totally different picture. theirfamilies different picture. their families are different picture. theirfamilies are waiting outside, camping for hours, and celebrations continue through the night with families who are celebrating their return. so it depends where they're coming from or where they will be going after they are released.— are released. thank you for the u date. are released. thank you for the update joining _ are released. thank you for the deal appeared to have gone well and smoothly. we haven't seen the delays that we saw yesterday when that prisoner exchange for the hostages really didn't happen until very late into the evening, early hours of the morning before it was completed. and i think all eyes now will be on tomorrow, day four of what is supposed to be a four—day deal. there was always provision in place for an extension of the deal — israel said that for every additional ten hostages who were released, that they would continue the cease—fire for 24 hours. there were additional palestinian prisoners who have been identified for release, as well. so i think tomorrow and in the next few hours, people will be watching. egypt said they had seen positive suggestions from the parties around the table from the parties around the table from israel and hamas that there could potentially be an extension, but of course i think we will watch and wait with an extra level of vigilance to see if that can be negotiated by qatar in the next 24 hours or so. we will keep you right up hours or so. we will keep you right up to date from here in israel. but let's get the sports news now. thank you very much. former england and barcelona manager terry venables has died at the age of 80. his family have released a statement saying "they are totally devastated by the loss of a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully on saturday after a long illness." after taking queens park rangers to the fa cup final in 1982. barcelona came calling in 1984. with that appointment, a nickname that would endure throughouth the rest of his life — el tel. venables took barcelona to a league title and the final of the european cup. from there, he returned to one of his former clubs, spurs, leading them to an fa cup win ini99i. then came england. he led his nation at a home european champoinship in 1996, where football fervour gripped england as they reached the semi finals of the euros, to the strains of the song "football's coming home". it was england's best major tournament achievement in 30 years. gary lineker, who venables signed for barcelona from everton and then brought him to tottenham when he took the manager's role at white hart lane, paid this tribute. first, i'd like to say what an incredibly sad day this is. it's actually hit me quite hard, because i was quite close to terry. he wasn'tjust i was quite close to terry. he wasn't just a i was quite close to terry. he wasn'tjust a coach or a manager, but he was a friend. i worked with him in television for many years. he was the only manager i had in my career that would regularly take me out for lunch, where we just talked football — and that started, as you rightly said, at barcelona when he signed to be there. an incredibly important person in my footballing life. it's dreadfully sad and i'll miss him a lot. well, one of venables' former teams, spurs, played on sunday — and they remembered their fa cup—winning manager with a minute's applause before their match against aston villa. spurs scored first after 22 minutes, but lost the game 2—1. villa go above them into fourth place in the premier league. pau torres and ollie watkins with the villa goals. meanwhile, everton are into the second half in their first game since being deducted ten points for breaking premier league finanical rules. they started their match against manchester united second from bottom of the table on just four points. everton supporters protested against the premier league outside goodison park before the game. united lead after a spectacular alejandro garnacho goal. red bull's max verstappen ended the most dominant season in formula one history with victory in the abu dhabi grand prix, for his 19th win in 22 races. the comfortable victory came after he brushed off a brief challenge from ferrari's charles leclerc on the opening lap. red bull's sergio perez took second on the road, but demoted to fourth by a five—second penalty — that promoted george russell to third for mercedes and, with lewis hamilton securing two points for ninth place, that was enough to keep mercedes in second place in the contructors championship by three points. ferrari finished in third place. australia take on italy in turin at the davis cup finals. and that's all the sport for now. i'm anna foster with the confirmation we've seen in the last hour or so that hamas has released 14 more israelis and three thai citizens who were held hostages in gaza on the third day of the cease—fire. the israeli army has said 13 of those hostages are now backin said 13 of those hostages are now back in israel. ijust want to show you some of the medical facilities that are ready and preparing for their return. this is the schneider medical centre, not farfrom their return. this is the schneider medical centre, not far from where i'm talking to you here in tel aviv. also the wolfson medical centre as well have said that they are expecting to receive some of the hostages from today. the last few days, we've seen them flown from the air base to those medical centres, so i think we might see similar pictures today of the helicopters actually taking those released hostages to various medical centres like that one you're seeing now, the schneider medical centre here in israel. among those who have been freed in this latest group is four—year—old abigail it down, who has dual israeli and uk nationality. we've heard us presidentjoe biden talking in the last hour about the efforts to secure her release, and we are also expecting to see soon israel freeing 39 palestinian prisoners who have been held in israeli jails. we will get the latest from orla garin. after 50 long days apart, joyful reunions. young hostages finally home. emily hand in the arms of herfather thomas. initially he was told she was dead, and then discovered she was alive in gaza. yesterday we finally got emily back from the hands of the gazan terrorists. she has lost a lot of weight from her face and body, but generally she is doing better than we expected. emily's family say they will throw her the biggest birthday party ever. she turned nine in captivity. 12—year—old hila was also released last night, but without her mother, who is still being held. for many, the trauma does not end with the homecoming. this woman's cousin is still a hostage, but her grandmother is back home. this was a holocaust survivor being taken hostage, driven away by hamas. and here she is getting a helping hand back on home soil. her family say she has come back strong from hell. her spirit is still there, and she is still looking all of us in the eyes and still showing us that she would not let them break her. and she is telling us how she thought about us and about her great grandkids at night when it became tough, and she is saying she could hear their voices calling her, and she said, ok, i have to push through, i have to do whatever it takes to be back. in the west bank, palestinians have been celebrating the return of more of their prisoners from israeli jails. the green flag of hamas flying high. but this is day three of a four—day deal, the releases could end tomorrow unless both sides agree to an extension. whether or not the war resumes, much of gaza is in ruins, and around 14,000 people have been killed, according to palestinian statistics. the un says the level of civilian deaths is unparalleled and unprecedented. orla guerin, bbc news, tel aviv. it looks like the choreography, the logistics of day three of this deal have all gone according to plan. this time yesterday, we had that delay and it was several hours later than planned. but things actually progressed and the israeli hostages were released and the palestinian prisoners were freed, things seem to be back on track today. i'll leave you with these live pictures of the scene at ofer prison, because this is the last thing we are waiting for confirmation of today, the release of 39 palestinian prisoners, women and minors under the age of 18 who are exchange as part of this deal brokered by qatar. that's the scene at ofer prison, and as i say, the confirmation that the prisoner release has taken place will be the last stage in day three, then we look ahead to tomorrow, today four, which is supposed to be the final day of this deal that was arranged between israel and hamas, brokered by qatar that included extra humanitarian aid, a cease—fire and those exchanges as well. and i think there will be intensive diplomatic work going on behind—the—scenes to see if that can be extended for longer than the originally agreed to four days. stay with us here on bbc news, let's go back to london. the former england football player and manager, terry venables, has died, at the age of 80, after a long illness. venables, a charismatic and sometimes controversialfigure, led england to the semi finals of the european championship in 1996, where the host nation lost on penalties to germany. he managed a number of clubs, including tottenham and barcelona, where he earned the nickname "el tel". andy swiss looks back on his career. earlier we heard from match of the day presenter gary lineker, who was signed twice by terry venables at barcelona and tottenham, who recalled his first impressions of terry when he moved to spain. first, i'd like to say what an incredibly sad day this is. it's actually hit me quite hard, because i was very close to terry. he wasn't just a coach or a manager, but he was a friend. i worked with he took barcelona by storm, because he's such a big character. he played a high press and that first season, and spanish football fans thought, "what on earth is this?" but they ran away with la liga, they crushed real madrid in the burn about, and he soon became the hero to the fans there —— bernab u no. he was quite right, he said, "you need to be a big personality to succeed," and he was. he was charismatic, he was incredibly witty, but he was also tough, and that's what you needed to be. and he understood football, he had an incredible football brain. he was remarkably innovative about the bucharest, it was goal list, then the barcelona players froze in the penalty shoot—out, not a single one scored. that hurt him, but you wouldn't have known it. i signed after that season. it was a tough time to join the club because they were largely in morning, because they hadn't won the european cup again. but he picked the team and we went very close to the final the following year. it welcome back to tel aviv, where _ now here's anna foster. welcome back to tel aviv, where we've _ now here's anna foster. welcome back to tel aviv, where we've been - to tel aviv, where we've been following day three of the deal between israel and hamas. we've seen the confirmed release of 14 israeli hostages, and three foreign nationals who are all now back in israel. and we have also nowjust had it confirmed from the israeli prison service, they have confirmed that 39 palestinian prisoners who are being held in detention in israeli prisons have also been released. that is an important moment because it completes the choreography of day three of this four—day deal. it was something that started in the early hours of friday morning, 7am friday morning when the fighting paused in gaza at the beginning of that four—day cease—fire. we've also seen additional humanitarian aid passing into gaza through the rafah crossing into gaza through the rafah crossing in egypt, including fuel importantly, a key pillar of this deal. it was something that had not been happening in the early days because israel had said that they were concerned that hamas would take that fuel and use as part of their operations against israeli forces. but for the first time, each day of this three day deal so far, each of the three days we've seen four trucks of diesel and four trucks of cooking guests pass into gaza. we've seenin cooking guests pass into gaza. we've seen in long queues as well as people have lined up for that. we've seen people taking their own containers to be filled, and in some cases we've seen people queuing for hours — we saw one gas station that actually had to close because it was overwhelmed by the demand. we also saw today 61 trucks of aid actually make their way to the northern part of the gaza strip — that was something that seemed to cause an issue yesterday because we had a delay in the exchange of hostages for prisoners for several hours. what we've seen happen today didn't happen until very late last night, in fact the early hours of this morning, because hamas said they wanted to see additional humanitarian aid making its way to the north of the strip, and we are told that has happened today. and then once again, as we saw yesterday, we've seen the release of the israeli hostages handed over to the israeli hostages handed over to the red cross. we did see something slightly different today because witnesses in gaza said the handover had happened in the northern part of the gaza strip, rather than the southern part. in terms of the israeli hostages, instead of seeing them leave through the rafah crossing into egypt, we heard us presidentjoe biden confirming that those prisoners, those hostages had travelled actually directly from gaza through the perimeter fence into israel, because one of them he said was very ill and needed immediate medical attention. so rather than taking them all the way to egypt and back into gaza, they went directly to israel. of course the reason the us presidentjoe biden has been speaking today in the last hour is because one of those hostages who has been released today, just four years old is an israeli us dual national. and in the last few moments, that confirmation i brought to you — we can see pictures of that coach which has moved from ofer prison to the checkpoint, this is 39 palestinian detainees, all women and minors under the age of 18. you can see the pictures here, this is a coach carrying those 39 palestinians moving away from ofer prison, moving through the checkpoint where those people will also be reunited with their loved ones, with theirfriends and families as the final part on day three of this deal. stay with us here on bbc news. you live from tel occupied west bank — an expected 39 palestinian detainees are to be released today. they are on their way home. i'm lukwesa burak in london — with the other main stories. tributes to the former
