Pickens, County Ga The second season started tonight as the Pickens Dragons welcomed the Southeast Whitfield Raiders to the Dragons Den for the first round of the 7-AAAA Region Tournament. The winner, punched their ticket to the 4A State Tournament and clinched a spot in the Region Semi-finals on Thursday. The Dragons, came in as the #3 seed in the tournament, while the Raiders came in as the #6 seed. In what was a total team effort, the Dragons came away with a 93-44 win.
Early in the first quarter, the Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead after buckets from Luke Rogers and Owen Moss. The Raiders, were able to tie things up after a free throw and three pointer. Pickens then went on a 16-0 run to make it 20-4. The Dragons got buckets from Tucker Lowe, Jaden Stewart, and Moss during the run. The two teams traded buckets to end the first quarter as the Dragons took a 25-10 lead to the second quarter.
Jasper, Ga After a tough game on the road against the Heritage Lady Generals the night before, the Pickens Dragonettes were right back at it on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Adairsville Lady Tigers to the Dragons Den for a non-region ball game. The Nettes, came into the ball game with the Lady Tigers looking to get back on track before they head back on on the road for a big week next week. After a high scoring first quarter, the Nettes defense settled in and Pickens came away with a 78-39 win.
The scoring started early in this one as the offense for both teams clicked in this mid afternoon game. Lilly Simmons got the scoring started for the Nettes as she nailed a three pointer. Adairsville came back with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 4-3. Pickens countered with a 4-0 run themselves as Caroline Mullins and Madison Powell made back to back buckets. Ringgold, Ga The Pickens Dragonettes came into their game against the Heritage Lady Generals on Friday, January 15th winners of 10 games in a row and in first place in 7-AAAA at 6-0. The Lady Generals, came in winners of 5 straight, and in 3rd place in 7-AAAA. The last time these two teams met the Nettes defeated Heritage 73-27 on December 8th in Jasper. The second meeting, was much closer. After a tough ball game, the Lady Generals came away with a 52-45 win.
Heritage got on the board first in the opening quarter with a three pointer. The Lady Generals, held a 6 point lead on two occasions, but a free throw by Emma Gleason and a three pointer from Reagan Harwood, cut the lead down to 12-10 going to the second.
Jasper, Ga The PHS Dragonettes hosted the Ridgeland Lady Panthers on Friday, December 11th in another 7-AAAA meeting. With the uncertainty surrounding the rest of the season, this night was deemed Senior Night that way the players from the Nettes and Dragons, as well as the cheer and dance teams could be recognized. The Nettes, came into the game after a big region win over the Heritage Lady Generals on Tuesday, and looked to improve their region record to 3-0 and the their overall record to 4-2. Ridgeland, came in 1-3 overall, and 0-2 in region play.
The first quarter started off slow for both teams. Plenty of shots were going up, just none would fall for either side. Reagan Harwood got the scoring started for the Nettes as she was able to connect on a layup attempt. Amanda Nelson then followed with a couple of free throws.
