Updated: 9:44 PM EST Mar 8, 2021 Hundreds of University of Massachusetts Amherst students are facing discipline for what school officials say is an egregious violation of the school s COVID-19 policy.In a message to students, the vice chancellor for student affairs and campus life said the Amherst Police Department was called by residents to disperse a crowd of about 200 UMass Amherst students who had gathered for a party, which coincided with the traditional pre-St. Patrick s Day Blarney Blowout festivities.According to Vice-Chancellor Brandi Hephner LaBanc, the crowd of mostly unmasked individuals was dispersed and citations were issued to the hosts of the party. It has become clear that a relatively small but highly visible subsection of the student population in the Amherst area feels entitled to break the agreed-upon policies and rules so they can party, with no regard for the health and safety of their peers.
