RALEIGH, N.C. The ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships came down to the final race to determine both the men’s and women’s champions. Florida State’s men held the slimmest of leads over Clemson with only the 4x400 relay left. Unfortunately, Head Coach Bob Braman wouldn’t have his normal relay team as injuries suffered during the championship to three of the stalwarts meant FSU’s final race would have just one experienced member on the team. FSU fought, just as they had the entire meet on both the men’s and women’s side, but the fourth place relay finish was not good enough to hold onto the championship trophy and the men finished as ACC runners-up by a single point. The Seminole women also had an outstanding conference championship finishing fourth. “It was just a tremendous ACC Championship, one of the best ever,” said Braman. “I am so proud of both our teams. We fought so hard and overcame some really tough breaks with the injuries, but I can’t
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State’s track and field program pulled off an upset last year at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships and they are hoping for the same kind of performance this year at the conference championships being held at NC State Thursday-Saturday.
“We were picked to finish third in the league on the men’s side last year and fifth on the women’s,” said Head Coach Bob Braman who leads all active ACC coaches with 12 men’s outdoor championships and five women’s titles. “We ended up winning the men’s championship by the largest scoring margin in ACC history and the women were only nine points shy of a title of their own.
“This feels like a similar scenario, but it would be very difficult to have as monstrous a meet as we had last year,” Braman said.
The Seminoles will count on their leaders at the always-challenging conference championships and they have been up to the task all season. Jeremiah Davis, Dajaz DeFrand, Amir Wil
Ruby Stauber’s journey to becoming one of the top 800m runners in Florida State history is all but smooth. Four different colleges in five years and multiple surgeries is not how any athlete draws it up when they sign their letter of intent, but Stauber has not only prevailed, she’s thrived. The journey started in a Minneaoplis, Minn., suburb where Stauber grew up in a decorated athletic household. Her dad, Robb Stauber, played collegiate hockey for the University of Minnesota and went on to play for the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL. Her mom, Alison Coffey, ran track at the University of South Florida under Head Coach Bob Braman then moved on to run professionally. Her younger brother, Jaxson, just singed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Mar. 24. “There was never any pressure from them to be a great athlete. If anything, I was fortunate to have them. They were able to share from their failures and mistakes. It helped especially in the recruiting process when
