Florida Legislature appears poised to strengthen state oversight of community associations

In response to complaints about the lack of effective oversight and funding for the Florida agency that oversees many matters involving community associations, it appears the state’s lawmakers are preparing to take action from the start of the 2024 legislative session that officially got underway on Tuesday. Jennifer Bradley of northeastern Florida and Jason Pizzo of southeastern Broward County have filed the bipartisan Senate Bill 1178, which would expand the oversight and enforcement of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the agency that regulates condominium and homeowners associations. It would require the DBPR to conduct random audits of community associations to determine compliance with the website/application process for official records and refer suspected criminal activity to law enforcement agencies, and it would enable its representatives to attend association board meetings. ....

The head of Ukraine's military intelligence said Friday that the drone attack on Pskov airport in the early hours of Wednesday was carried out from Russian territory. In the attack four Russian IL-76 military transport planes were hit, two of them destroyed and the other two badly damaged. Russia said on Friday it had destroyed Ukrainian aerial and naval drones in Moscow and the Black Sea. The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, explained that "air defense forces destroyed a drone in Moscow" The drone's casing fell in the area of the Exhibition Center and did not cause significant damage to the building, he said.
