Hospitals in Fiji experiencing equipment shortage following the recent Covid-19 outbreak will be getting a much needed shot-in-the-arm from New Zealand this week. Two container loads of medical equipment will be shipped off to the island nation which just last month suffered a second outbreak of Covid cases in the community after having contained it successfully for almost a year. Harish Lodhia, Fiji’s honorary consul in Auckland, is co-ordinating the shipment of the two six-metre (20ft) containers, one of which will be carrying sanitisers only, a total 18,864 bottles, donated by an Auckland company.

A small initiative started by a couple of Auckland siblings to help new migrants into New Zealand has come a long way from humble beginnings 25 years ago. The Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, started by Jeet Suchdev and Roopa Suchdev in 1995, recently commemorated the charity s silver jubilee in Auckland with a host of dignitaries, community leaders and invited guests.
