settle on school funding in the first 30 days of the session. we need to get the numbers to the schools districts in time so they can plan and certify their budgets in the middle of april, said rep. ron jorgensen, (r) sioux city. so, i know its a priority of mine to get that done as soon as we possibly can. lawmakers will also contend with governor terry branstad s plan to extend the state s penny sales tax to generate billions of dollars for education and water quality, said matt breen. but, some members of the governor s own party don t support the plan. like senator david johnson, of ocheyedan. number one, those taxes were approved at a local level first before it went statewide, said sen. david johnson, (r) ocheyedan. so, in one respect we are taking away a local vote if we were to move that money. second, johnson says it won t be enough. the republican has written a bill which would add a 3/8 of a cent sales tax to generate money for a dedicated natural resou

bring a weapon to campus before the day began. once the student got to school, they were able to search, locate the weapon and then detain the student. he was then taken into custody by the police. once again, it s important to note, that the student didn t have the capability to load the weapon, but dr. gausman says that doesn t change the severity of the issue. we will follow all of the necessary steps, procedures and protocols to make certain that we do all that is necessary to keep our students and staff members safe, said sioux city community schools superintendent, dr. paul gausman. now, speaking of those procedures and protocols, it s important to note that student can t return to school until this case is fully resolved. of course, explusion is a very likely possibility, but dr. gausman says that will this case moves forward. we have a winter weather advisory for a small section of siouxland tonight. chief meteorologis t ron demers joins us now with the first look s
