GODFREY Thursday’s storms have prompted Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick to declare an emergency to extend the village’s yard waste burn ordinance through June 12.
McCormick said the village’s existing rules for yard debris will apply during the extension. Burning is allowed for yard debris only and must be conducted on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
At about 12:50 p.m. Thursday, a large portion of a tree fell into power lines at the intersection of Pearl Street and Lake Street, breaking cross arms on a power pole and causing an outage for more than 1,500 Ameren Illinois customers.

Workers on Monday cut a hole in the north side of the Godfrey Imo’s Restaurant at 2704 Godfrey Road for a drive-up window. The restaurant, which was severely damaged in an October fire, previously did not have a drive-up window. No date has been set for the restaurant’s reopening.
ALTON A drive-up window is being added as part of the repairs to the fire-damaged Imo’s on Godfrey Road.
On Monday, workers were removing blocks and cutting a hole in the north side of the restaurant at 2704 Godfrey Road for a drive-up window. The restaurant, owned by brothers Tyler and Thomas Shereck, formerly did not have a drive-up window.

SPRINGFIELD The annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony is now set for Friday, Sept. 10.
The Fallen Firefighter Memorial service will be held at the firefighter memorial on the grounds of the Illinois State Capitol beginning at 10 a.m. Following the ceremony at the capitol, the Medal of Honor Ceremony will take place at the Bank of Springfield Center. More information about the annual fire truck muster will come at a later date. The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) will be following the latest COVID-19 guidance set in the Restore Illinois Plan to help maintain the health and safety of those attending the events.
