As long as the state’s Crisis Standards of Care Plan and the elements of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s pandemic-related public health orders which restrict surgeries and procedures that hospitals may perform to only those considered ※essential” are in effect, Gila Regional Medical Center’s patient volumes and revenue will remain ※soft,” hospital executives said during the monthly meeting of the Gila Regional Medical Center Governing Board.

As a critical access hospital, Gila Regional is now entitled to far higher Medicaid patient care cost reimbursements, among other financial advantages. However, it would need normal volumes of patients to see the benefit of those increased payments, and that’s simply not in the cards right now. ....

After a rough several months, during which time eight residents died after contracting COVID-19 and dozens of staff and residents were infected, a spokesperson for Genesis HealthCare told the Daily Press this week that Silver City Care Center now “has no active COVID cases.”
Genesis HealthCare owns and operates the 100-bed long-term care facility on Fowler Avenue, located near Gila Regional Medical Center.
