For itself what is necessary to protect the safety of human life and federal property. The parksike what service is saying here is the only way for us to secure this property is putting up these massive barricades. That seems odd. I do not think it would be court. Ged in i think it is a safe bet for the park service to make these calls. Anotheract, there is argument against this, which is for many years, the executive branch since the stockton memo in 1981, the omb issued a memo that said what sorts of things are essential . We get to keep security on the payroll. Park security is still getting paid. It seems odd that the park service would be setting shutting down a part for security reasons when the security personnel are allowed to be staffing the us monuments. That is just kind of strange. The second issue i would like to talk about is the blocking of private or coowned property. The congressman mentioned lake mead. There was a news story about a whole bunch of folks with vacation ....
Closer to it, it became apparent, it is not like we wake up in the morning saying i want to get 1 7 of the people in the world to do something. A billion is not like magical number. Now, as we kind of approached that and passed it, now the focus for us is retooling and youre going to see us retooling the company in a lot of ways to go take on a lot of harder problems that will fulfill this mission. Connecting the next 5 billion people is going to be hard. Lot of them dont have internet access. People share and put billions of connections into this graph every day. We dont just want to add incrementally to that. We want over the next five to 10 years take on a road map to understand everything in the world smantically and map everything out. We want to play a role in helping people build companies and build jobs. Those are the big themes for us and what were going to try to do over the next five to 10 years. To sum that up, you want all the people . [laughter] im kidding. We want to hel ....
I wanted to follow on the question, just to clarify, is the president negotiating on whether or not to reopen the government and raise the debt limit . Our position has been no ransom for reopening the government or congress responsibility. Is he not negotiating . The president has had it depends on what you mean by negotiate. He has been having conversations with lawmakers. What he has firmly made clear again and again is give the tea party its ideological agenda wish list in exchange for Congress Opening the government or congress raising the debt ceiling so the United States doesnt default. That has been his position all along. It is clear in its simplicity, open the government, pay our bills, stop threatening default and stop doing harm to the economy and American People. That has been our position all along. And r ....
Tradition that you gather with people having the same degree that you were getting. You all walked together. Lawn all bydown the myself. One of the advantages of this unique situation is that i could say with equal honesty that i was first in my class or last in my class and be telling the truth in both situations. I would like to thank the leadership for this opportunity to speak about the importance of the National Historic preservation act in safeguarding the american cultural heritage. In 1966, Congress Passed the National Historic preservation act. This was a huge moment and things have never been the same. Aboutwas an excitement the middle 1960s with the passage of this act and the programs that came out of it that i hope we can rekindle here we canwhich is a yes look at what we are doing. I in aside, my wif ....
Rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction of Historic Places. This event is about one hour. [applause] good morning, everybody. It is a great treat for me to be back here in charlottesville. I was born just across the street here in 1938. I graduated from the school of architecture in 1961. The first and at that time the only recipient of the newly minted bachelor of architectural history degree. Professor Frederick Nichols referred to me as his historical guinea pig, given my dismal grades in design this seems to have been a relief to him, that i had some glimmer of academic quality in my otherwise rather lazy nature. One of the advantages of that situation, being the first graduate with this degree, was that at commencement it was the tradition that you gather with people having the same degree that you were getting. You all walked together. So i walked down the l ....
