Bob was lucky enough to meet Tracy, a Fort Walton Beach native, in Birmingham Alabama. They met while Bob was selling wine and Tracy was managing a restaurant in Five Points South. After moving around a bit, they settled down in Plano, Texas, to raise their three children: Brandon, Natalie and Nicholas. Once the older two had moved out of the house, they were blessed to be able to move home and have been living in Shalimar for almost two years.
Schmidt secured 1,194 votes and Smith 1,020 from among the 7,834 city residents whose votes had been counted as of press time Tuesday. Each voter was given the opportunity to vote for three candidates.
Allegretto s 867 votes gave him a healthy margin of victory over fourth-place finisher Debra Riley, who captured 784 votes. Obviously I m happy to be re-elected, Allegretto said. But we ll see.
The small business owner said he was relieved to have the campaign season behind him. I love to get out and talk to people and get their opinions on things. That s important, he said. But at the same time it s super stressful. There s a lot to a campaign.

Tuesday’s Municipal Elections in Okaloosa County resulted in a new charter amendment for Destin and one new face to the Fort Walton Beach City Council.
Twelve candidates ran for the three open seats on the Fort Walton Beach City Council, including two incumbents. Despite a lot of grassroots efforts from newcomers, only one made it on the council. Incumbents David Schmidt and Nic Allegretto will return to the council. Auto dealer Travis Smith will be the newcomer on the council. A total of 8,018 ballots were cast in Fort Walton Beach.
Results are still unofficial with all precincts reported and vote-by-mail ballots partially reported.
Okaloosa County voters will head back to the polls in early March to vote in a number of municipal elections.
A total of 10 municipal seats across Fort Walton Beach, Laurel Hill and Shalimar are on the ballot March 9, although in many instances the candidates who qualified for the seats are running unopposed.
Also on the ballot are a pair of local referendums: One will ask whether Laurel Hill voters favor dissolving the city to become an unincorporated part of Okaloosa County. The other would amend Destin s charter to prevent the city from conveying, selling, leasing or otherwise transferring its interest in any city park without a supermajority vote of the City Council.
