Election 2021: Fort Walton Beach Council - Schmidt, Smith, Allegretto elected

Schmidt secured 1,194 votes and Smith 1,020 from among the 7,834 city residents whose votes had been counted as of press time Tuesday. Each voter was given the opportunity to vote for three candidates.  Allegretto s 867 votes gave him a healthy margin of victory over fourth-place finisher Debra Riley, who captured 784 votes.  Obviously I m happy to be re-elected, Allegretto said. But we ll see.   The small business owner said he was relieved to have the campaign season behind him.  I love to get out and talk to people and get their opinions on things. That s important, he said. But at the same time it s super stressful. There s a lot to a campaign.

Small Uptick In Voter Turnout For Okaloosa Municipal Election

Despite a lot of grassroots efforts from newcomers, only one made it on the council. Incumbents David Schmidt and Nic Allegretto will return to the council. Auto dealer Travis Smith will be the newcomer on the council. A total of 8,018 ballots were cast in Fort Walton Beach.  Results are still unofficial with all precincts reported and vote-by-mail ballots partially reported.

Laurel Hill, Florida Okaloosa County s oldest city, to remain incorporated

Laurel Hill will remain a city and, for at least the next four years, Robby Adams will continue to serve as its mayor, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s municipal election. Also according to unofficial results, voters in Destin approved a prohibition on the conveyance, sale, lease or other transfer of interest of a city park without the City Council’s supermajority approval. In Laurel Hill, more than 65% of the 202 voters who cast ballots voted “no” in answer to the ballot question, “Shall the City of Laurel Hill, Florida, be dissolved, and its charter revoked?” More than 50 of Laurel Hill’s 600 or so residents earlier had signed petitions seeking a referendum on whether the city should be dissolved. Proponents had cited poor road conditions and a small city budget as top reasons why Okaloosa County’s oldest city might be better off as an unincorporated, county-managed community.
