You. I have to start out by saying not cool, youre a fiction writer. Why are you invading our space with nonfiction . Youre already the queen of fiction. Youve got this gigantic kingdom and its not enough for you. You need to come over to the nonfiction Writers World and just demolish us as well. Whats going on here . Says the man writes nonfiction, as a podcast and is now a famous musician. But i did want to start out by asking you, youve read i think its five novels before this book and to say youve carved out a niche is a greatunderstatement and will get to that in a second. But why nonfiction . What finally tempted you over to nonfiction and im wondering is this, do you see this is very much a blip in your long fiction writing career or do you see yourself now more fluently going back and forth . The reason for writing this, the intention behind this was ive been talking aboutalzheimers around the world for over a decade now. Thats super important work to me personally. I know it i
Not surprisingly i tend to lean towards american history , much of it political but actually, one book i just finished was not about politics. It was about the history of the Polio Epidemic from the games and. It came out in 2006 and it won a Pulitzer Prize and as a polio victim myself, i have always had a kind of special interest in it. And i thought with the pandemic going on were some lessons with regard to vaccines and one of the things weve been thinking lately is get vaccinated and of course one of the big differences between the situation we find ourselves in now and polio is 70 years to come up with 2 effective vaccines for polio. Our marvelous country and our marvelous Pharmaceutical Industry came up with effective vaccines in less than one year. To give us an opportunity to get past the pandemic. One of the most interesting things about the Polio Period was fdr came down with polio at age39. Most people thought it was kind of a Childrens Disease but it did affect adults from
