Two Sports Join European Games Program - Federation Focus 03/31/21 (ATR) Sport climbing and triathlon are the latest sports to be added to the program for the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023. Sport climbing will debut in 2023. (Eddie Fowlke/IFSC) Sport climbing, which makes its Olympic Games debut this summer at Tokyo 2020, will be making its first appearance at the European Games in 2023. Athletes will compete in Poland with qualifying opportunities for Paris 2024 available. Triathlon will return to the European Games fold in 2023 for the second time after featuring at the first edition in Baku in 2015. International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) President Marco Scolaris said his sport’s inclusion in the European Games will be an excellent platform for the continent’s best climbers. ....

FIBA - Record number of women to referee major FIBA events this summer 04/01/21 FIBA has announced an experienced lineup of referees, with the highest number of women referees to date, to officiate this summer s upcoming tournaments. For the first time ever, women have been nominated to officiate at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Latvia, which will take place from July 3 to 11 in the cities of Riga and Daugavpils. Eight women referees will work at the tournament, while 12 female referees will be at the FIBA U19 Women s Basketball World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary (August 7-15). The number of nominated female referees for both combinations - 20 out of the 56 - is the biggest that it has ever been. ....

SBP president Al Panlilio confirmed that no PBA players will be sent in the tournament. Players who were picked in the special draft in 2019 and this March will comprise the core of the Gilas Pilipinas team that will fly to Belgrade in hopes of qualifying for Tokyo Olympics. Panlilio said the PBA schedule running smack into the OQT which is set from June 29 to July 4 played a role in the decision to field an all-cadets squad. PBA players will also not be sent in the coming Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers fourth window which will be staged sometime this year and to be hosted by the Philippines. ....
