According to Amy Hart of WADI, Salvation Army collections for the holidays start today. Because of the Salvation Army last year, 18 families received help with utilities, gas cards, rent, doctor's appointments, and similar items. Hart says she would like to have a diverse group of bell-ringers for the season. Anyone with questions, or who wants to volunteer, can call WADI at 618-842-2962. The Fairfield Festival of Lights kicks off tonight from 5-8 at Leo French Park as Mayor Mike Dreith and his wife Carol, will be the greeters. The festival will be open Saturday from 5-8 and Sunday from 5-7. Following Sunday, the Festival of Lights will close, then resume with greeters on Friday, December 3. The unemployment rate in Illinois dropped from September to October, going from 5.1 to five percent, according to recent statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The Annual West Salem Community Thanksgiving Dinner 2021 will be on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 25, 2021. Serving will be from 11:30 until 1:00 in the Hauser Room of the Moravian Church. All are welcome and encouraged to come and bring your spouse, your friend, your family or a neighbor and enjoy a meal together. There will be turkey, dressing, noodles and all the trimmings, including Pumpkin Pie, all at no cost. Don't spend Thanksgiving alone, spend it with us. This will be Dine-In or Carry Out.
