The Annual West Salem Community Thanksgiving Dinner 2021 will be on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 25, 2021. Serving will be from 11:30 until 1:00 in the Hauser Room of the Moravian Church. All are welcome and encouraged to come and bring your spouse, your friend, your family or a neighbor and enjoy a meal together. The Shiloh Community Church will hold a free Thanksgiving meal on November 25th at the Old Mom's Diner in Geff, located at 101 Washington Street. Meal service will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the church says it will offer free delivery for those not wanting to gather. Horizon Healthcare Clinics (Fairfield, Carmi, Cisne and Grayville) will be closed on Thursday, November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Horizon Healthcare's Fairfield Clinic will be open on Friday, November 26th. Horizon Healthcare Clinics in Carmi, Cisne and Grayville will be closed on Friday, November 26th. Fairfield Memorial Hospital's Respiratory Illness Screening Tent and Urgent Care will be open from 7am-12pm on Thursday, November 25th, and will resume regular business hours on Friday, November 26th starting at 7am. Fairfield Memorial Hospital Orthopedic Clinic and Fairfield Memorial Hospital Pain Clinic will be closed on Thursday, November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday and will resume regular business hours on Friday, November 26th. On November 22 the Fairfield FD was alerted to a reported structure fire at 6:24pm. The exact location of the fire was unknown to the caller, and the fire was determined to be a residence located at #2 Puckett Drive. Fairfield FD arrived on the scene 3 minutes after dispatch and found heavy fire conditions in the center of the residence. Multiple handlines were deployed to extinguish the fire and protect a couple exposures in close proximity to the fire. The fire was marked under control in 24 minutes after FFD arrival. The owner of the property is still undetermined at this time. The residence was an abandoned property and there were no utilities to the building at the time of the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire is still open at this time. The Fairfield FD was assisted at the scene by firefighters from Fairfield Rural and EMS personnel from Wayne County Ambulance. There were no injuries reported. With the 2022 retirement announcement this week by Donna Masterson, Wayne County Deputy Treasurer and Distribution Clerk Crystal Ellis has announced her intent to run for county treasurer. Ellis graduated with an Associate's Degree from Frontier Community College while working at Airtex and served as Treasurer for the UAW. During her 10 years at Airtex, Ellis says she worked during tax season for the treasurer, and, when jobs at Airtex were ending, she was hired full-time in Masterson's office. She has served in her current role for nearly five years and says she loves serving the county. Ellis will run as a Republican, as will Yvette Anderson, who announced her run for the position Monday. Several people were sentenced in Wayne County Circuit Court Tuesday, including 35-year-old Grayville resident Eric B. Willett. He admitted to violating his probation on an original offense of delivery of between five and 15 grams of meth, a Class 1 felony. Judge Michael Molt sentenced him to 13 years in prison, plus two years of mandatory supervised release, and 205 days of day-for-day credit will apply. Four other cases against Willett were dismissed. 33-year-old Fairfield resident Anthony N. Alexander pleaded guilty in August to a Class 2 felony count of arson, and he was sentenced Tuesday to two years probation and time served. He was also ordered to pay $1,264 in fines and court costs. 29-year-old Rinard resident Cody R. McKinney, 40-year-old Raleigh resident Jimmy L. Horton, and 25-year-old Fairfield resident Eddie D. Brooks III pleaded guilty to Class 3 felony counts of possession of methamphetamine. McKinney was sentenced to 24 months probation and time served, and four cases and one count were dismissed per his plea. He was ordered to pay $629.45 in fines and court costs. Horton was sentenced to 24 months special section probation and ordered to pay $1,224.50, and Brooks was sentenced to 30 months probation. Two other cases against him were dismissed per his plea, and Brooks was ordered to pay $5,915 in fines and court costs. 32-year-old Wayne City resident Teesha Jennings admitted to violating her probation for possession of less than five grams of meth and was sentenced to one year probation and 40 hours of public service work. 60-year-old Fairfield resident David J. Kunce and 34-year-old Crossville resident Tiffany L. Whitley admitted to their violating probations in September on original offenses of possession of less than five grams of meth. Kunce was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in the Wayne County Jail, and Whitley was sentenced to two years special section probation and 30 hours of public service work. Prices at the pump are on the decline, as a recent report details the lack of travel this Thanksgiving holiday. According to a new study by GasBuddy, only 32 percent of Americans plan to travel for Thanksgiving this year, a decline from 35% from last year. The recent report also details how 75% of Americans say that COVID-19 has had no impact on their holiday plans this year. On Monday, the average price per gallon stood at $3.51 in Illinois. River stages as of this morning: the Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 7.81 feet, below the 17 ft. flood stage. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 5.21 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 6.85 feet (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 2.41 feet, and the Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 5.39 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 7.40 feet.
