Watch: Growing plants without soil and other experiments astronauts will do in space

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) informed that Cygnus spacecraft installation on the International Space Station (ISS) is now complete. The live stream of the same was also available.  The US-based space agency NASA informed that the Cygnus spacecraft, built by Northrop Grumman, was launched atop an Antares rocket at 12:40 pm EST on Saturday (February 19) from its Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

Queqiao: The bridge between Earth and the far side of the moon

E-Mail IMAGE: The far side of the Moon always faces away from the Earth, making communications from lunar equipment there much more challenging. Fortunately, relay communication satellites can act as a bridge. view more  Credit: Space: Science & Technology Because of a phenomenon called gravitational locking, the Moon always faces the Earth from the same side. This proved useful in the early lunar landing missions in the 20th century, as there was always a direct line of sight for uninterrupted radiocommunications between Earth ground stations and equipment on the Moon. However, gravitational locking makes exploring the hidden face of the moon the far side much more challenging, because signals cannot be sent directly across the Moon towards Earth.

Largest aerospace society names Sandia researcher 'Engineer of the Year'

Sandia researcher Humberto Tito Silva III has been named Engineer of the Year by AIAA, the world s largest aerospace technical society. Silva s work improved failure-rate predictions of aerospace flight systems as they reenter Earth s atmosphere. The work helps direct engineers to attack the worst problems first for reentry rockets, spaceships and satellites.

The dark matter particle explorer has measured high-precision cosmic ray helium energy spectrum

Credit: DAMPE Collaboration Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) Collaboration directly observed a spectral softening of helium nuclei at about 34TeV for the first time. This work was based on measurements data of the helium spectrum with kinetic energies from 70 GeV to 80 TeV (17.5 GeV/n to 20 TeV/n for per nucleon) recorded by the DAMPE. The relevant results were published in Physical Review Letters. Galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) offers important ways to deeply understand the astrophysical particle origin and accelerators and the interstellar medium of the Galaxy. Helium nuclei, the second most abundant nuclear element of cosmic rays, is a distinguishing feature of space.
