Logistical issues raised in first week of vaccine roll out to aged care facilities

The first week of the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in aged care homes has highlighted problems of delivery of the vaccine and equipment. In Brisbane a doctor gave to two elderly patients a dosage that was five times above the recommended levels prompting an investigation by the federal government.
The federal Department of Health said in a statement that Health Care Australia (HCA) had assured it that the that the doctor in question had completed “all of the required COVID-19 vaccine training”. ....

St Basil's denies rumours of redundancies and closure

St Basil’s Homes for the Aged in Victoria, the site of Australia’s deadliest coronavirus outbreaks so far, is not in danger of closure.
Fr Evmenios Vasilopoulos, the Archdiocesan Vicar of the Northote district, who is the current Chairman of the nursing home following the resignation of Konstantinos Kontis in September 2020 told
Neos Kosmos that rumours of an imminent closure are groundless.
“There is no uncertainty surrounding St Basil’s nursing home in Melbourne, and there is no chance that it will close,” Fr Evmenios said, pointing to inaccuracies in the article in
The Age which suggests that the future of the facility is in doubt following the federal government’s Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s notice that St Basil was “not eligible to receive Commonwealth subsidies for any new care recipients” for six months. ....

It's official! Greek language program to continue at La Trobe University


Following a commitment made by the Greek Community of Melbourne to provide both additional funding and assistance in increasing student enrolments, La Trobe University has agreed to continue the teaching of its Greek language program for three years. The situation will be reviewed after semester 1 census in 2023 and the future of the program will be dependent on whether enrolment targets have been met.
The commitment follows a change proposal shared with staff for consultation on 11 November, as well as feedback from key external stakeholders of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUSS). This change proposal is part of La Trobe’s response to the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the University. ....
