This Was Brainerd - Feb. 17 A look through the Brainerd Dispatch archives with Terry McCollough combing the microfilm for tidbits of history through the decades going back to 1921. Written By: Terry McCollough | × FEBRUARY 17 20 years ago (2001) Senior captains Katie Majka and Kyle Goochey capped their careers in school record fashion at the state alpine ski meet at Giants Ridge. Majka finished seventh for the girls; the previous best was 13 th by Kellie Burton. Goochey finished 20 th for the boys, the highest since the program resumed in 1989-90. 30 years ago (1991) The Brainerd boys swim team won its first Section 8 title in program history. Winners were the 400 free relay of Lance Hoff, Mark Schmitz, Dave Wise and Steve Piepgras in 3:19.64; the 200 medley relay of Evan Kaneski, Hoff, Schmitz and Piepgras in a meet record 1:42.4; Hoff 21.64 in the 50 free; and Piepgras 56.98 in the 100 fly. ....

It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street).
