Nigeria records improvement in volume of non oil exports— NEPC

Enugu, March 9, 2021 The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has announced a remarkable improvement in the volume and value of Nigeria’s non-oil trade in the international market.
The Executive Director of NEPC, Mr Olusegun Awolowo, disclosed this on Tuesday, in Enugu, at a sensitisation workshop on ‘Export Facilitation Measures, Practices and Standards’.
Awolowo, who was represented by the Director, Trade Information, Mrs Evelyn Obisike, described the development as a fallout of the diversification reforms of the Federal Government, aimed at promoting non-oil trade.
He also said that the reforms in the sector had led to high demand for Nigerian products on the international market. ....

Oruku Crisis: Enugu State Govt imposes 12 hour curfew

Enugu, Feb. 25, 2021 Enugu State Government has imposed a 12-hour curfew on Oruku Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state following the crisis that claimed the lives of two community leaders.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Chidi Aroh disclosed this on Thursday in a statement in Enugu.
Aroh said that the curfew would become effective from Thursday Feb. 25 and terminate in March 31, 2021 after which the security situation in the community would be reviewed.
He said that the curfew would be from 6pm to 6am within the said period and urged the people of the area to attend to their lawful businesses outside the affected hours. ....

IPMAN decries continued neglect of Enugu NNPC depot

Enugu, Feb. 25, 2021 The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu Chapter has expressed worry over the continued neglect of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Depot in the state.
The IPMAN Chairman, Mr Chinedu Anyaso disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association.
Anyaso, therefore, called for the urgent rehabilitation of the depot in order to have safer movement of petroleum tankers.
He said that petroleum marketers in the state have had it rough since 2005 due to the poor state of the depot in the state and vandalism of the pipelines leading to it. ....

Ex-Enugu State Governor, Chime revalidates APC membership

Enugu, Feb. 12, 2021 Former Enugu State Governor, Mr Sullivan Chime, on Friday in Enugu, revalidated his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chime, who was Governor of Enugu State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told newsmen that the event was a re-endorsement of his membership of the APC which he joined in 2017.
The former governor said that he believed that the APC would reinvent the visionary leadership needed by the state.
“I am here to proudly revalidate my membership of the APC. This is a party I believe will take us to the next level,” he said. ....

Gov. Ugwuanyi inaugurates 272 community policing officers in Enugu

Enugu, Feb. 12, 2021 Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Friday inaugurated the 272 special constables recruited for the community policing programme in the state.
Ugwuanyi said that the officers were recruited from the Neighborhood Watch Association and Forest Guards in the 17 local government areas of the state.
He said that 16 of the Community Policing Officers (CPOs) were recruited each from the local councils in the state.
He said that the officers would be deployed to their wards and local government areas to assist in gathering and sharing of intelligence with the security agencies in the state.
The governor solicited the support of members of the public for the officers to enable them succeed. ....
