25th annual 'Swing for Cancer' raises record amount

With 104 golfers participating, more than $18,000 was raised and donations are still coming in.
Members of the Cobblestone Ladies League board organizing the event were Pat Treesh, Helen Cochard, Linda Moses, Phyllis Weber, Lin Swogger and Brenda Rummel.
The annual event helps to support Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
Among the seven volunteers was Ellyne Sollenberger of Kendallville who, in March 2022, will be a 20-year breast cancer survivor. She has volunteered as a “hole watcher” since 2011; the main task of a “hole watcher” is to verify a hole-in-one.

Police pursuit ends in exchange of gunfire
KENDALLVILLE — A traffic stop in Fort Wayne led to a pursuit and ended with gunshots fired between police and a LaOtto man just outside the Johnson Mobile Home Park off Waits Road early Thursday morning.
The suspect, Justin R. Weikel, 40, was transported to an area hospital, according to Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Brian Walker. Weikel’s condition was listed as stable as of 7:55 a.m.
Initial reports indicated Weikel had been shot, but police later said that might not be the case. He was the lone occupant of his vehicle.
No officers or civilians were injured, but an unoccupied DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department vehicle was struck with gunfire. ....

Thank you to all the Noble bell ringers

To the editor:
This letter is a huge “shout out” to all the Salvation Army bell ringers and all the donors who helped to make the Kendallville bell ringing season so successful again this year. This year we collected more money in Kendallville than last year.
As the time drew closer for the beginning of the season, I knew this season would be so different, like everything else. But it is so overwhelming to know that there still are so many in our community willing to help this important event. Every single hour filled by a ringer is deeply appreciated. Some ringers could only help one hour, some signed up for two, three or 10 hours each week, and some churches and businesses were able to participate in the Take a Day challenge. Every person who gave or rang was deeply appreciated and important. ....
