LaOtto man facing charges after police pursuit, shootout Associated Press KENDALLVILLE – A northeast Indiana man has been charged with attempted murder and four other counts following a pursuit through several counties and a gunfight with Fort Wayne police last week that left him hospitalized for four days. Justin R. Weikel, 40, of LaOtto also was charged Friday in Noble County with aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm, drug possession and resisting law enforcement. Weikel was arrested April 22 in Kendallville by Fort Wayne police SWAT team officers and transported to a hospital, police said. He was released and detained on an outstanding Noble County warrant. ....

Several booked into Noble County Jail ALBION â Several people were booked into the Noble County Jail from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning, according to jail records. Jeffery D. Hamilton, 38, homeless of Kendallville, was arrested at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday by Kendallville police on two warrant charging failure to appear for court, one a Level 6 felony and the other a Class A misdemeanor. Hamilton was held without bond. Anthony J. Laisure, 33, of the 11300 block of North S.R. 3, Kendallville, was arrested at 8:29 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging a Level 5 felony. No further charging information provided. Laisure was released on his own recognizance. ....
ALBION â A Noble County judge Tuesday gave the Noble County Prosecuting Attorneyâs Office additional time to file charges involving a LaOtto man who led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a shootout with officers in Kendallville early Thursday morning. A closed hearing was held Tuesday afternoon in Noble Superior Court I regarding Justin R. Weikel, 40. At the conclusion of that hearing, Judge Robert Kirsch gave Prosecutor Jim Mowery until 10 a.m. Friday to file formal charges relating to Thursdayâs incident. An initial hearing in the case could come as early as Friday afternoon. Initial reports indicate Weikel initiated a high-speed chase starting in Fort Wayne that traveled north to Kendallville. ....

Officers attempted to stop Weikel for a reckless driving violation Thursday in Fort Wayne. Weikel stopped for the Fort Wayne officer but sped off as the officer was walking up to the car. ....
