In 1977, Gary Ingle returned to Ukiah from the Bay Area to take care of an elderly aunt on the ranch where he was born. With some time on his hands, he walked into the Palace Hotel and was hired by Pat Kuleto, early on, to work on the renovation as the finish foreman.

The restaurant’s grand re-opening took place on Oct. 19, 1985, attended by a “crowd that was bejeweled, beribboned and bedecked. The food and wine presentations were all that could be asked for.”
