After an incident, Vader and his owners have been banned from the city dog park.
DUNKIRK As the Dunkirk Common Council considers the possibility of banning certain participants, a dog and owner who have found themselves profiled over the last few weeks are Vader, a shepherd and husky mix, and his owner, Gary Miller.
Earlier in April, Miller and Vader had an incident occur at the Dunkirk Dog Park on Main Street Extension with dog owner Jade Lowe, and her dog, Corvus, a black lab mix, that has caused a stir over the last few weeks.
“Corvus and I had shown up at the dog park, there was another dog there and a couple, but we didn’t think much of it,” Lowe told the OBSERVER. “We went to the other fenced-in area because I didn’t know this dog or how he played with others. They asked me some questions about Corvus, if he was friendly with other dogs. … There was a shift in the air and then I heard the growling and then Vader was on top of Corvus and he would n ....

Incident at Dunkirk Dog Park sparks concern | News, Sports, Jobs


A recent incident involving Corvus, above, is being investigated.
Corvus, a sweet black lab mix, had a dangerous run-in with another large dog at the Dunkirk Dog Park on Main Street Extension recently and while that can happen anywhere between dogs the problem was the owners of the other pet did nothing to stop the fight that broke out.
“Corvus and I had shown up at the dog park, there was another dog there and a couple, but we didn’t think much of it,” Jade Lowe, Corvus’ owner told the OBSERVER. “We went to the other fenced-in area because I didn’t know this dog or how he played with others. They asked me some questions about Corvus, if he was friendly with other dogs. The dog’s name was Vader and they ran back and forth along the fence line for awhile.” ....

We have all learned to do some things in new ways during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of these practices have been difficult while others are full of success.
Dunkirk’s drive-through rabies clinics is one of these items that has worked very well. Within the last month, the latest clinic handled 148 pets nearly three times more than a clinic did in the past. Denise Zentz, Dunkirk dog control officer, said having a preregistration one week earlier makes all the difference.
“People preregister at one of our time slots and then after that I take them by phone to fill up the rest of them,” she said. “We try to do 150 per clinic and it’s in 15-minute increments, so they are given a time to show up and every 15 minutes we have a new group of people showing up.” ....
