City weighs restrictions for dog park | News, Sports, Jobs

Serious incidents at the city’s dog park could lead to some residents and pets being banned from the location on Main Street Extension.
Last week, Third Ward Councilman James Stoyle questioned the issue involving a black and white husky mix named Vader and a black lab mix named Corvus that happened a month ago. Some claim the husky was left at the park without supervision of the owners.
“I spoke with our dog control officer (Denise Zentz) … and we’re going to address it and see what we can do,” Police Chief Dave Ortolano said. “I know she’s talked to the city attorney (Richard Morrisroe) about some of these issues. If we have issues with someone my advice is they’re warned and if it continues then they are banned from the park and we would charge them with trespassing and we serve them with a notice that if they come back we would charge them with trespass if they don’t learn to control their animal.” ....

We have all learned to do some things in new ways during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of these practices have been difficult while others are full of success.
Dunkirk’s drive-through rabies clinics is one of these items that has worked very well. Within the last month, the latest clinic handled 148 pets nearly three times more than a clinic did in the past. Denise Zentz, Dunkirk dog control officer, said having a preregistration one week earlier makes all the difference.
“People preregister at one of our time slots and then after that I take them by phone to fill up the rest of them,” she said. “We try to do 150 per clinic and it’s in 15-minute increments, so they are given a time to show up and every 15 minutes we have a new group of people showing up.” ....

Alexandra Torres and Sarahi Borrero-Santiago enjoyed the return of their chihuahua Noah on Friday after a three day search.
Everyone loves happy endings, and on Friday one came for Sarahi Borrero-Santiago and her family when their dog Noah was returned to them.
Noah, a chihuahua, went missing on March 9 from her residence in the 600 block of Park Avenue in the city of Dunkirk.Three long days passed with no sightings of her at all.
“That’s very odd for this area,” Denise Zentz, city dog control officer, said. “Around here people are ready to jump into helping. Not having any sightings at all is highly unusual, that’s when we knew something fishy was going on.” ....
